if you guys havent heard yet.. haren has been announced as opening day starter.. and harden would go third.. scheduling him for the home opener start..
so if you were a pitcher which start would you rather have.. opening day start or home opener start..?? and also would you throw blanton out there as the number 2 starter..?? only so he could face the mariners twice in the month of april.. =) then hope he can win one between the angels, yankees and rangers.. the a's could reshuffle the rotation in the first two weeks of may with 2 off days.. |

I would go Haren/Loaiza/Harden/Blanton, so I think it's set well as is...
Same way Zito was our #1 even when Harden looked to be the ace of the staff, it's generally about skill combined with durability when choosing your front-line guy. Most fans' heart is with Rich anyway, so having him open at home is preferable for that reason as well. Can't wait for Opening Day! |

Rambling:
I will go with Blanton as #2 to start, as you say, to get him two starts vs Mariners in April. Don't argue with success, eh? Hope Loaiza comes around a bit more to the form he ended the season in last year. Also, I would not wait too long on Kennedy before pulling the plug. Windsor instead to start, then if he has the yips at the big league level again, use Halsey. Halsey started out well last season when called upon early to stop the bleeding in several situations, and I would hope if Kennedy washes out and if Windsor is still ineffective up here, that they keep trying these other options like Halsey. I know he doesn't have lots of cheerleaders amongst the A's faithful, but he helped out a lot in the first half of the season last year. Baptism by fire can be a motivational experience. Prolly much too early to think about Komine or others at this point, and I suppose having to go to Windsor or Halsey is bad enough. Let's just hope Kennedy can find it, which is the preferred solution to this current dilemma. I think we do need a leftie in the rotation too, which tempers the urge to shelve Kennedy early and causes me to lean toward Halsey as first option. Later, RDB |

Loiaza looked great at the end of last season. Give him a shot. Also it's best to not heap too much pressure on Harden. Danny Haren can handle it and it's great to get him some shine as he's been vastly overlooked these past few years.

Interesting about Haren. I wanted to look up his career stats and put in "Dan Haren." That got me next to zilch. Then I put in "Danny Haren," and went straight to his career stats. Funny, how much a little thing like that can mean.
I wonder if he officially wants to be named Danny or if Dan is ok with him? Too much time on my hands late on a Friday afternoon. Later, RDB |

his bobblehead says dan haren.. and i think in his signature his first name just gets a "D"..
reminds me of douglas murray on the sharks.. he wants to be called douglas and not doug.. i guess with the swedish accent (he is from sweeden..) doug sounds like dog a little too much.. =) |

Felix Hernandez is the real thing and I think Seattle might be a decent team this year. Everything has to go their way in terms of starting pitching but it's actually POSSIBLE, unlike the case for, oh, I dunno, those hapless midgets across the bay...
