Not a poll, but just a question to those that might venture over here today:
Which team will end their championship curse first, the Gnats or the Cubbies? Recall that both Sox recently did it. So, that would seem to indicate that either by hook or by crook, one of these should follow suit and end their curse first. How can the Snakes and the Fish, both RECENT expansion teams, win championships and not these old stalwarts from SF and Chitown? My name is RobDogBucky and I am an A's boardaholic. Later, RDB |

that's tough. Neither club seems to be any better run than the other. For now, I'd say the Giants, as they seem to want to be dedicated to a youth movement (as soon as Bonds leaves) while the Cubs haven't seemed to produce any star talent since Prior, Woods, Zambrano. I don't think the Cubs spending spree is going to help them as much as people think.

Im going to go with the Giants on this one based on Management. The Giants seem to be trying to head the right direction once Barry B. is gone. The Cubs on the other hand are spending money but it still seems like a trainwreck to me. They seem more interested in promoting Wrigley and Cubs franchise than actually trying to put a contender on the field.
Besides, cmon its the Cubs. They have no chance. |

I say it will be the Cubs. The Gigantes displayed that certain bad luck charm when Dusty took out Ortiz with the lead. We all know what happened after that to them. I think their overall fate as a team has been determined for years to come. I don't think the pot is as deep in SF as it is in Chitown to buy a one year wonder. This could be the Cubs' year.
They said c'mon it's the Red Suxx, they said c'mon it's the Chisox. Now it's c'mon they're the Cubs. Blind squirrel, meet nut. Later, RDB Last edited by RobDogBucky; 02-26-2007 at 08:58 AM. |

I say the Giants because it does not matter how much talent the Cubs have, they are still the Cubs and I will almost gurantee that at least one of their top players will get hurt.
The Giants may be old, but in a few years they will put it together. |

Let's see, it was 86 years between championships for the Red Suxx and it was 86 years between championships for the ChiSox. What is it for the Gigantes? Using these numbers, how log for the Cubs and/or Gigantes to reach that nadir of futility?
Someone said the closest the Cubs came was a while ago, when there was a strike-shortened year. When another reminded that person that the Cubs were only 10 games out or so when the strike was called, the first person answered that "God does not like taking chances." Later, RDB |

as much as i hate to say the giants are looking pretty decent with their pitching rotation.. and with that ballpark a decent offense should be enough to get them to the playoffs year after year..
cain, lincecum, zito and lowry.. |

If your mentioning the Giants, I think you should consider the Tribe, after all, the Cleveland Indians haven't won since 1948, a longer drought than NY/SF's Giants, with Bob Feller. They will probably win it before the others, given the ammount of talent at the Jake now, despite Cleveland's sports drought. But, if you force me to say which one I think will win first between the Cubs and the Gnats, I would say Frisco.

OK, so it has been 53 and 99 years respectively, since either team has won it all.
Practically speaking, did either one improve substantively in this offseason? Midgets have a new mgr., 2 new infielders in Aurelia and Klesko, new outfielder Dave Roberts, 2 new pitchers in Zito and Ortiz. Cubbies have a new mgr., 2 new? infielders in DeRosa and Izturis, 2 new outfielders in Cliff Floyd and Alfonso Soriano, and new pitcher Ted Lilly. Last season the Giants finished 10 games under and the Cubs finished 30 games under .500. I like how this sounds from the end of 2006; Giants = 76 wins Cubs = 66 wins A's = 93 wins Go A's! Ooops, I forgot that the Gigantes also added Benji Molina at catcher.
That should really make a difference, huh? BTW, is everyone aware of the A's blog at the SFGate? I saw it for the first time recently and thought it contained a lot of info. for the fans. Later, RDB |
