"Swisher hit 11 fewer home runs and batted 23 points lower than Soriano, but his on-base percentage was 21 points higher and the two had the same number of RBIs (95). They both struck out more than 150 times (Swisher 152, Soriano 160). That stat alone makes the Soriano contract pretty hard to justify, except that the Cubs are trying to pacify their fans, compensating for a long-term paucity of good judgment."

Though thats true, whats the point of comparing him to swisher? Soriano hit leadoff and drove in those runs, while swish was in the middle. Also, if your gonna compare salaries, thats insane since swish hasn't hit FA yet. Had he been a FA he'd get 10 mil this year too. The writer failed to mention his 40 steals also. But I agree, overpaid.
