Default A's agree to deal with Shannon Stewart

ESPN.com - MLB - Source: A's agree to 1-year deal with outfielder Stewart

So, who's the odd man out? Goleski?

Bummer. This looks like a last resort thing, considering all the other OFers they tried to sign (Floyd, Erstad, Nixon) and didn't. I think I'd rather give Goleski or Johnson another chance before Stewart.

I'm OK with it as a 1 year deal. If he's in a strict platoon with Kielty, the A's left fielders will average about an .825 OPS. That's about what 5 million bucks will buy you in MLB.

I'm okay with this deal, especially if we can get 100 games out of Stewart. He's a decent leadoff guy with the stick, but may have to slow the wheels down a bit.

That kind of foot problem doesn't go away (cured) it seems.

Welcome aboard.

If his injury problems have been minimized then I like the signing. The A's needed a versatile outfielder for when Kotsay is shelved and Stewart would seem to fit the bill.

His feet are fine at the present it is reported. And the roster spot was opened up with the designation of 2 DOLLAR CHUCKIE for assignment. The team has a little more depth now.

He's likely to lead off when playing right? No more Kendall at the spot?

Not likely.

Kendall does the least damage when he's leadoff, because it limits his GIDPs and he actually had a pretty good 2nd half of the season last year.

I could see Stewart as more of a #2 kinda hitter, as long as he gets on base at his pre-injury rate.

And the A's still have $2 Chuckie... just not on the 40 man roster. And they are looking for the same to happen with Bocachica being on a minor league contract after getting through waivers.
