A's just have too many pitchers on the major league roster who cannot be optioned to the minors. Thus they are trying to thin out the pitching staff; like others, I thought they would get something more in return.

With all the 5th-starter candidates flopping their way through the month of March, this makes me miss Kirk even more. I suppose Billy figured a middle-reliever who pitches a few days a week is more valuable than a 5th starter...still I get the feeling Saarloos could've been both.

I lived in Phoenix at the tale end of 2001 and saw one of the best uses of a "swing" pitcher ever with Miguel Batista...now back in Seattle I get to see him older and no longer a swinger.

I'm sorry I left for a while. I needed a vaction, and then work changed substantially. I'm over 50 hour weeks, plus two hours a day of commuting time. A few weeks ago I launched my own blog about Seattle Sounders FC and Life in Puget Sound. I won't be by these parts often as my focus has changed. Sorry about the unannounced retirement. |
