Am I the only one who will miss Milton Bradley after this year? It seems on the other board that a one year deal seems just fine to the other fans. No surprise of course. It seems stupid and short sighted to me given his talent, his athleticism, his post season performance, his comfort with the A's and the cost of free agent hitters but Billy has obviously decided that he can do without. I'll be sorry to see him go after this year.

nope.. same here.. i would have liked to see at the least a 2 year with a 3rd option.. then again maybe milton didnt want to go more than one year.. as he is a free agent next year..
hopefully duchscherer signs a multi year deal.. so that he wont become too expensive to pay for a reliever for the a's in the near future.. |

I'm also sorry that they did not give Bradley an extension. Agree, he is gone, as some team will sign him for a big payday. Too bad, methinks A's could have gotten him cheaper by extending him now. It's apparent the A's remain stingy. They never seem to extend the "right" guys when the opportunity is there, then cry they can no longer afford them as they allow them to hit free agency.

After seeing the kind of money players are making nowadays, Bradley probably wanted to prove himself this season. If he stays healthy all year, (and no doubt he thinks he can do it) he's rolling in the dough. If not, the A's are probably willing to take another chance with him next year.

Any long term signing with us would have to happen pretty early this season. Otherwise, I'm guessing that if he can perform well without significant time on the DL this season, we won't be able to keep him.

He hasn't left yet. It's not like he's going to command the same salary as Barry Zito.
I see a situation similar to Frank Thomas, where the A's make a valid attempt to sign him. Whether he takes the deal or signs somewhere else is unknown. |

I would like to see him stay and hope that Beane agrees with me. I like the way he plays and I think his "blowups" were minimized by the locker room atmosphere (except maybe coffeegate in the playoffs which was broadcast ad nauseum).

I think it's to early for a long term deal for Milton. Taking a look for another year will probably be the wiser course.
Of course if he plays 150 games and puts up big numbers you could end up like this guy .On the other hand....... ![]() |

$4M seems like a good deal to me for 2007. But yes like all the other players he sees the opportunity to become a long term contract multi-millionaire after this coming season. If he shows he can stay healthy, he is worthy of a greater contract next fall / winter. If not he will come back to the A's and their limited budget for another season.
He still needs to show that he is worthy of whopper $$$ by performing with that type of gusto in 2007. |
