Being reported all over the place this morning, here's a link...
Giants finally make a big splash, sign Zito to largest pitcher contract ever 7 year, $126 mil. It's the largest contract ever for a pitcher. Good for Barry being able to maximize his FA payday and manage to not have to move. From the Giants perspective, I guess if you're gonna sign a pitcher for almost $20 mil per year it might as well be a guy who has never missed a start, and I suppose that by the end of the contract his salary might not seem all that out there (although I guess it depends on how it's structured). Even though it's hard to stomach seeing a fan favorite cross the bay, it is nice that he didn't sign with a division rival or end up another cog in the Yankee machine. Oh well, good luck to Barry. I've never had a favorite player on the Giants before but he's it now. I hope he personally does alright as long as it isn't against the A's or in helping the Giants win anything worthwhile. Jim |

Yes, we offered arby to Zito. We only get a 2nd round pick for him though (plus the sandwich pick) because the Giants 1st round pick is protected since they suck so bad (bottom 15 teams don't lose their 1 st round pick under the new rules).

That is a distinct possibility with the new stadium and it's new and hopefully robust revenue streams such as corporate sponsorships, elevated season ticket sales, parking and fancy concessions. Of course that is several years away.
