Default Bonds

There's been some speculation about Oakland picking up Barroid.
I predict right now that it happens. We sign him to a one-year deal.
I'm not a Bonds fan, but obviously, I'd take him on the team.
What does everyone else think?

I've never been a big Bonds-basher, and always respected his accomplishments for what they were. I think his bat would be solid insurance, particularly if Cust has a tougher second go-round in the AL. In fact I think the A's may be the only team willing to take him right now, as our clubhouse would be the only sanctuary away from all the hoopla...

I guess it would only make sense if BB decides not to trade Blanton/Haren. If he decides we're going for it, Bonds would be a huge help. He'd make everyone in the lineup around him better.
If Beane unloads and decides to restock for 2009 or later, it just doesn't make much sense to sign Barry to any kind of contract, as all it would do is generate a media frenzy (not that I'd mind, I might actually get to see the A's on TV once in a while out my way).
There's a good Ray Ratto column about it at the chronicle right now.
In any case, there are still some rumors flying around about Haren and Blanton being traded. Hard to guess what will happen right now.

EDIT: This is a couple of minutes later. I found this article about a possible Haren trade to the DBacks. I don't know any of the players named in this article except for Max Scherzer, who apparently wouldn't be a part of any deal. I'll see what I can find out. I really should do some actual work today.

Do you think Beane would sign Bonds to a 1 year contract if he agreed to a below market deal ($10 million or less?)

Bonds wants to reach 3,000 career hits and he prefers to remain in the Bay Area. The problem is that any team signing him will take a major public relations hit for adding a confirmed cheater on trial for perjury and obstruction of justice.

Will Billy Beane use that to his advantage as a negotiating ploy? It seems to me that the only way Bonds comes back next year is at a substantial discount.

Well, Barry even stated he would play again in SF in a part-time role and a heavty discount, but the offer wasn't made. So I think the same could definitely happen in Oakland, it's merely a matter of whether they want to take on the media machine which would come with the signing....and whether Bonds' production would be worth it.
