It seems, despite their collective underperformance this season, there won't be much change to the starting roster in 2008....other than Barton's emergence. Whether we like it or not, Crosby & Kotsay seem to have a 90% chance of being given another go-around in their positions...Mark for contract reasons and Bobby simply because Beane isn't willing to admit defeat just yet regarding one of his favorite guys.
Our best singles-hitter will likely not be re-signed, so I guess as fans we'll be hoping some of these guys realise their potential next year: 1B-Barton (aka The Hope) 2B-Ellis (aka The Rock) 3B-Chavez (aka The Mediocre) SS-Crosby (aka The Glass) LF-Swish CF-Kotsay RF-Buck DH-Cust Not very exciting, IMO, but I'm not expecting any big changes to the above. Any thoughts? |

Cust for a full year will help, I'm personally disappointed that you gave up on the Jedi though.
That club also has needs for a great 10th guy who can play SS and 3rd.

Yea, I agree. A's fans have a love affair with Scutaro because he's come up with big hits in clutch situations past, but he's simply not productive enough on a regular basis to continue the backup IF role, given how many of our infielders get hurt.

I read an entry on the SF Chronicle's A's web site that said both Beane and Stewart's agent have had positive talks about him coming back.
link I also saw an entry on the web site's blog that speculated about Mike Cameron in CF. That didn't thrill me, but one passage about Cameron's 25 game suspension got my attention: Quote:
Interesting, anyway.

I would love to have SS back in the OF, despite certain A's fans claiming it would be another Beane mistake. Our team has a recent history of not re-signing its best hitters every winter, and the lackluster offense has shown they aren't able to reclaim that with new aquisitions.
I'm not a fan of MC either...and if I recall correctly, Oakland was a team he refused to be traded to one year. Why not Torri Hunter? We should have some payroll freed up without Kendall, Piazza, etc on the books. Last edited by Nat; 11-01-2007 at 06:37 PM. |
