As the Seattle Sounders enter the quaterfinals after smoking Chivas USA, I find that five MLS clubs have lost during the single elimination tourney.

In fact in the round of 8 only 3 MLS clubs remain

The USL is guarunteed at least one team (Richmond USL-2 v Charleston) in the Semis and since Seattle and Charleston are hosting in the Quaters there is a decent chance one of them moves onward.

A second USL-2 (if MLS is = to MLB, USL2 = AA) squad is still alive and faces New England, but at Gillette stadium.

Possible Semifinals matchups announced. IF Seattle wins they get another home game, either v Dallas of MLS (9-6-3 W-L-T in MLS) or Charleston of USL-1 (7-8-5). Huzzah for good fortune.

Kind of poor weather and my friends backed out, so I'm watching online, as the USL is putting the Open Cup on live for free

14 minutes in and it has been mainly a midfield battle with Conor Casey blowing an opportunity for the Rapids while in the box.

Sounders respond shortly later with an attack but Colorado forces Seattle out the end line.

From 5-10 in the Sounders have been attacking with the ball mainly within the Rapids end. Likely due to the Rapids being a man down due to a minor injury.

Dallas beat Charleston earlier this evening, so the winner of this faces FC Dallas in the Semis

Just damn impressive.


Yellow cards all over the place so far, and with the Rapids getting crushed the likelyhood that something gets out of hand is pretty high.

This will be Seattle's second win over an MLS club and they are doing it by playing attacking soccer, capitalizing on the mistakes in MLS. Agressive fun footie.

Colorado Rapids player gets a second yellow, and now the Rapids try to mount a three goal comeback down a man.

The Seattle Sounders host FC Dallas and the Carolina Railhawks visit the New England Revolution. Both matches are on Sept 4th, and the great news is that as a Sounders fan I'll get to know who they face before the match here even starts.

Since MLS started participating only one team from the (A-League/USL) has made the finals, Rochester twice. They won it back in 1999 even.
