Real seek Beckham resolution | News | Guardian Unlimited Football
Quote:
There is a rumor that the new MLS "Designated Player Rule" was put in place specifically so that Beckham could sign with the LA Galaxy where he owns a home and runs a soccer camp. So the Future of Beckham is Real? ManU? or maybe even MLS? Quote:

Never MLS, although apparently Posh wants a move to LA. Becks himself wants to play two more years at Real Madrid, then move back to England. The tabbies are reporting/speculating/making things up about a possible marital rift due to this. Himself thinking about his career and herself thinking about hers, if she still has one. Since he's the one making all the money these days, I expect him to win.
I do not ever expect to see David Beckham in the shirt of of an MLS team. |

Beckham move crucial for MLS - Football - Eurosport Any thoughts on what this might mean for the MLS? I'm excited about the deal because I think it might give soccer a legitimate chance in this country. Even if multi-generation Americans never take to the game, we have so many Americans of recent European or Latin background, that I think there are enough people out there to make soccer a major sport in the United States. Signing a bigtime player like Beckham should really help popularize the sport in that regard. I know that when L.A visits New England next year, I'll definitely go to the game. |

The trick though will be to make certain that the soccer is still good. NASL had the top players in the game and sellout crowds in many markets, and yet still failed.
Yet, I feel good about this. I didn't know MLS had that kind of cash available, and two I think that a lot of areas that were thinking about single sport stadia will more seriously consider it. For tracking purposes, Real Salt Lake dealt their Designated Player slot to DC United in the Adu deal. DC has two LA's taken RSL has zero (though they have one of the most marketable American players.

I don't knwo about this deal... I mean, that is huge but it reminds me of the Los Angeles Kings getting Wayne Gretzky -- the NHL and the Los Angeles Kings owner mortgaged the league on this move in hopes of growing the game. Hockey had a little peak but has largely remained a cult sport in the US.
That's the way I would look at this move -- it's a on-a-wing-and-a-prayer investment in their strongest market (LA with it's two teams has the large fanbase of immigrants who know Soccer/Futbol and support it. They migh not be England fans but they'll know Beckham from Real Madrid. Very big risky move... Beckham and his wife will both be put into a spotlight that might be less eccentric than that in the UK but a bright spotlight all the same. |

I am excited about the Move and personally purchased Season tickets behind the Galaxy bench....I express some of my sentiments as well as a Euro writer's perspective in the attached Page Title
Beckham, simply put, will be Fantastic for the development and interest of soccer in America, much as Pele did for a time in the '70s.... |

I hope its better than Pele'. NASL didn't last long enough. The USA deserves an enduring league, and though it might not ever be a top 4 league (Italy, England, Germany, Spain) it should definately be top 10.
BREITBART.COM - US was Beckham's only option: Ferguson Sir Alex Ferguson says that Beckham would never play in England against ManU. He's probably right. Gary Neville's quote at the end is quite intriguing to me Quote:

Beckham seeks early escape to LA | News | Guardian Unlimited Football
If Fabio won't let him play at all, then just move him sooner Quote:

I think this move is going to kill this teams and mybe the MLS with it.
$250 million? Is the league even worth $250 Million? has the league even made that much money in the last 5 years? Does this signing even change how America's view the Game of Soccer? will it really show up in the number of tickets sold and if a few non fans go to a game to see him play how many of them will go a secound time? Then how many fans are they are going to lose when they figure out that they are drowning in the red and they are forced to rase Ticket Prices $200 to $300 Dollars a seat with Parking at $25 to $50 Dollars. and the $10 Dollar Beers and So. |

The team is only paying him 3M$ per year The league is only paying him 400K$ per year Addidas is paying him 6M$ per year The rest of the reported contract is from profit sharing and assumed rights from 100% control of his own image and marketing. Within the day of the signing the LA Galaxy sold 1000 season tickets. The Toronto Club sold 100 season tickets just because LA signed Beckham. So yes, the team and the league can afford it. ESPNsoccernet - MLS - Chang: Behind the numbers of the Beckham contract The details on the contract and why it makes sense.
