Dan, if that's you it is a fine idea to reinvent the Yanks. Though I don't know how much I like the idea of Ichiro wearing 51 out in the Bronx.

The only thing people have taken issue with on this is the fact that the bullpen is too thin. And if you read the article I've already splurged quite a bit of money already. But Gagne would be a possibility, he is not opposed to New York as he has New York listed as a place he would go to...i.e it is not on his list of limited no trade clause. |

Bullpen issues are the sign of championship caliber teams, well if that's the only issue.

First of all, get rid of Myers and two of Proctor, Vizcaino, Fransworth. Call up Henn and Britton.
Get the best young talent we can for Abreu. Preferably young arms, although a young OF would not hurt. I wonder if the Angels would have any interest in him. I'd pay his whole salary and throw in one of the relievers if that's what it takes to get Brandon Wood and Joe Saunders. Then trade for a righthanded or swith-hitter. Dmitri Young, Adam Dunn, someone else who can play 1B. Whichever one we can get for the best price. If the price is reasonable, get them both. Find the best available backup catcher, one we can use to let Jorge play 1B or DH a couple of times a week (save his knees, extend his career.) If we can get anything for Moose, it might be worth looking into, especially since both Hughes and Karstens are on their way back. He'd prefer to be close to his Williamsport-area home. Maybe the Phillies? Again, we'd have to include a lot of his salary, but if the right players come our way, I'd make the deal. |
