Do you guys trust Brian Bruney to hold an integral spot in our bullpen next season? Sure, he was absolutely terrific down the stretch for us, but he has had control/attitude problems in the past, and the control problems he had worry me the most. Look at his stats:
Code:
Year Ag Tm Lg W L G GS CG SHO GF SV IP H R ER HR BB SO HBP WP BFP IBB BK ERA *lgERA *ERA+ WHIP +--------------+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+------+----+----+----+---+----+----+---+---+-----+---+---+-----+-----+----+-----+ 2004 22 ARI NL 3 4 30 0 0 0 14 0 31.3 20 16 15 2 27 34 1 2 135 5 0 4.31 4.44 103 1.500 2005 23 ARI NL 1 3 47 0 0 0 21 12 46.0 56 39 38 6 35 51 5 2 230 2 0 7.43 4.40 59 1.978 2006 24 NYY AL 1 1 19 0 0 0 2 0 20.7 14 2 2 1 15 25 1 2 90 0 0 0.87 4.38 503 1.403 +--------------+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+------+----+----+----+---+----+----+---+---+-----+---+---+-----+-----+----+-----+ 3 Yr WL% .385 5 8 96 0 0 0 37 12 98.0 90 57 55 9 77 110 7 6 455 7 0 5.05 4.41 87 1.704 It is a small sample size. And he is young. So, he does have that going for him. So why do I pose this question? Because I have read and heard from different people and articles that the reason this guy started to pitch so poorly, beginning in 2005, is due to a lack of confidence stemming from one outing. If that can still happen to this guy, it doesn't bode well for his future career with the Yankees. The good relievers are extremely good at putting what they did the day before behind them. This is especially key with the Yankees, where the pressure is bigger than any other city. |

He pitched GREAT down the stretch. He has that confidence going into the Spring. He deserves a spot in the pen, if he it dosne't work out aw well. But he deserves every chance to make the pen agian this year. AS for me I think he will be fine, as i said he was good down the stretch and not bad in the playoffs. I think his confidence will be there and he should have a good year. Remember Tayon Sturze had problems like these and he turned out pretty good for us.

He its normal not to trust people like Bruney. Becuase well he hasn't been there say like Stanton/Mendoza/Nelson were in the late 90's. But got to believe in what we have. And if Guidry/Torre trust him well then so do I. Plus he is a guy if we ever have a bench clearing brawl agianst Boston, he will lead the charge out of the pen lol

It's not like Bruney is our main setup guy. He's just one more guy out in the pen who may or may not end up being crucial. At this point we have 6 righties for the pen if you include Proctor (Rivera, Farnsworth, Britton, Proctor, Bruney, Rasner). We probably only need 4. While they say that Proctor may start, I'm not so sure I believe that's going to happen. At the very least, the option of putting Proctor back in the pen if Bruney struggles exists. Our big problem is having both Farnsworth and Myers in the same bullpen. They force a 7-man pen. That's the problem that needs to be solved.
