To be honest, I don't think you could be any farther from the truth. What's the problem with George now as compared to other seasons, where players signed with the Yankees (as opposed to fleeing)? As long as the Yankees have the money to spend, players will want to play for the Yankees, not be adverse to playing for them.

Alex makes good press, but he isn't going anywhere. The walk-away in his contract is a guarantee that he can't be traded. No one would trade for him now because he could walk away after a year, and he can walk away after any other of the remaining years.
When we can get someone who hits .290, 35 bombs and 121 rbi in a off year then you might think about it. The press in NY is trying to do the same thing the press did in Boston to Mo Vaughn, Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs (and to some point Nomar) They made them all look unhappy and greedy. Face it, ALL ballplayers are greedy, but if they want fame and fortune there is one place to play, NEW YORK, and Alex (and more importantly) his agent know it. The Cubs are paying Soriano a fortune, and they can't pay another fortune to A-Rod and still keep the line-up around Sori. Alex is going nowhere, and if you want him gone you need your head examined. The Jeter-Arod feud is not a feud, it's made up in the press. Like Maris and Mantle hating each other (while they lived together....right!) It makes good press and in New York Sports pages they never let the truth get in the way of a good story. If you waste your time listening to those two melon heads on the FAN in the afternoon I suggest you get an XM radio and start listening to Dibble and Kennedy in the afternoons. You'll hear real baseball people talking about something they love instead of two egos blathering on and on about nothing. OK, my rant is through..........joe (for the record I am NOT an A-Rod fan, just how do you replace him? rhetorical question because you can't. He's one of the 5 best players in the game) |

By the way you can find a Raissman column from a few years ago where it was a shoo-in that Carlos Beltran would sign with the Yankees. After all, Bernie Williams was his idol and to follow his idol into centerfield at YANKEE STADIUM was what he dreamed of all his life. Another Hall of Fame centerfielder in New York. It made a good story at the time.

A friend of Alex Rodriguez tells us he would be willing to bet A-Rod doesn't opt out of his contract after this season. "He may ask for an extension," the friend said. "But I don't think he'll opt out."
ESPN.com - MLB/SPRING2007 - Stark: Rumblings and Grumblings "Besides loving the Yankees," he said, "I love the American League. It's where I've played my whole career. So whoever writes that couldn't be more wrong." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/502526p-423799c.html |

ARod a Cub? Um, excuse me but who thinks the Cubs have a blank check? They probably won't resign Zambrano with all of the dough they have already spent. Do they really have another 25 million for ARod?
Does ARod have the guts to "quit" another town and go after the money. I am not bashing here just stating what some may perceive. ARod is not exactly welcomed to dinners in the homes of folks that live int he Seattle or Arlington areas, IMO of course. I would say that he is more integrity than to exercise that stupid clause. JD Drew showed his lack of integrity before he ever made into MLB with refusing to sign witht he first team that drafted him. Anyone surprised that he jilted the Dodgers? ARod is made up a little different than that. |
