Default New York Yankee Question(s)...

I want to ask my fellow Bronx Bombers fans a question or two. Can anyone tell me if we are looking to sign any free agents? I feel we still need a few players to complete our roster. We could still use a LH RP and a 1B. We still need an utility player. Can anyone tell me any news about our Bombers?? I am ready for the season and I live about an hour away from the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees and looking forward to seeing prospects like Hughes and Sanchez. I am excited that Cashman didn't trade our prospects and we finally have a future that looks bright. Let's start talking about the Bombers and what we think we still need, who we're targeting and what rumors we are hearing. Baseball is RIGHT around the corner...GO Bombers!!!!

Good post. Welcome to the board and keep posting. As for free agents, the Yankees I believe have done most of their work already with the aquisitions of Andy Pettitte and Kei Igawa(if signed). The free agents they still might look at are Shea Hillenbrand, J.C Romero, Chris Reitsma, Joel Piniero, and Doug Mientschevitz(sp?). Maybe a chance at Roger Clemens. Otherwise, no big names left for us to grab.

Well Phelps isn't guaranteed to make the roster. If he gets returned we only have to pay whatever the amount is. Pocket change really.

I think Mientkiewicz would be a great choice, if only for defensive purposes. Let Giambi DH full time and we'll deal with Doug's offensive shortcomings.

I think they're going to eventually offer Phelps back.

We paid $50,000 for Phelps. If he's returned, we get $25,000 of it back.

He'd be the 8th hitter anyway.

I think the Yankees are going to ge a lefty reliever. Tehy've been mentioned in trade rumors for Pittsburgh's Mike Gonzalez and Damaso Marte. They still might re-sign Villone.

Their interest in Joel Pineiro and Chris Reitsma has been reported in the papers. Ibet tehy sing at least one of these guys. (Reitsma would allow them to deal a reliever in the package for Gonzalez.)

The team needs a utility IF and a backup C. I wouldn't be surprised if these get filled via free agency. They'll either re-sign Cairo or get another utilityman.

They are looking at Toby Hall for the backup catcher spot but he apparently would prefer to sign where he can be a regular. There are numerous backups out there, including Rod Barajas and, if all else fails, our own Sal Fasano. Or could they trade for someone like Mike Matheny or Eliezer Alfonzo?

I think Phelps has a pretty decent chance of staying, even if it's as a bench player. He once hit 20 HR for Toronto.
