According to a New York baseball website, the Cardinals have asked the New York Yankees for permission to examine starting pitcher Carl Pavano's medial records. Could a trade be in the works?
What would the Yankees want back from St. Louis? The biggest needs at this point are a backup catcher and a utility infirelder. If Pavano is traded in the near future (the Rockies have also inquired about the pitcher) he's still owed $23 million. The Yankees are likely to have to eat most of that. If the Yanks have to eat a significant portion of Pavano's contract, I say keep him. What's the point of trading him if we still have to pay him? He still might be able to pitch halfway decently. It's not like he's pitched and tanked.
