^^ Yankee stadium is nearly 100 years old. While the stadium has been renovated before, George Steinbrenner has been trying to get a new stadium for the team for nearly 30 years.
While everyone can think an older stadium is nice, there are drawbacks to them. Maintenance costs start going through the roof as stadiums age, it's harder to retrofit stadiums with modern things when the wiring in and around the stadium has aged, or other utility problems, etc

This new Stadium project is all about the money. If George gets a new stadium, the luxury box revenues will not be shared under the revenue sharing rules. This rule was designed to motivate teams to build new stadiums. Most new seats(if they add any over the previous one or even if they don't) will be PSLs(Personal Seat Liscenses). They will hand out the PSLs to corporations, taking seats away from real fans. Like I said at the start of this post, it's all about the money. But hey, I can't blame George. What's wrong with making money?

I've honestly never been there, but my friend says that the seating there is horrible. Things like... if you're down the third base line near the pole, the seat doesn't face home plate, but instead faces the right field pole. Things like that ticked him off I guess.

I'm going to ask you guys to view This page to see more details and discussion on the Yankees stadium (as well as other New York stadium discussions).

Oh no...it's really happening now!
I cannot believe that I'm still sitting here today, and I've yet to attend a game at Yankee Stadium! It's almost pathetic in a way when you come to think about it... Why? Well, I've been living here (eg, the NYC Metropolitan area) pretty much my whole life, so as you can imagine I've been following the Yankees for a pretty long time... You'd think that after all the success the Yankees had during the late 90's, that I would have made the time to get out to at least ONE game...right? Negative. Never did happen not once during these years...but I always said in the back of my mind "Hey, no sweat! There's always next season! I'll wait.". Well, it appears my luck has run out... Sure, you can watch countless Yankees home games all you want on the TV set...but it's just not quite the same when you're actually physically there in person (especially a ballpark like Yankee Stadium, ya know with all the history and everything), regardless of what team you root for! But being sports fan of all teams here in the NYC area, it would truely be a disgrace on my part if I do indeed fail to get out to a Yankees game before they close the park, and open the new one... I guess if I have anything going for me this season, it's that I have no more excuses now! |

You have to go. You're a Yankee fan I'm assuming. It really is a great experience. Plus, there have been less drunks around because many can't afford to get drunk as it cost eight dollars for a beer... |

Scary! Remember how I said that I drew a Mets new stadium before they made their renderings? I did the same thing with Yankees Stadium (I believe on binder paper), and they look eerily similar to each other! Next time I go back home (mid-December), I'll find that drawing and scan it for you guys. I need to find my Marlins one, too (which was ALSO rather similar!). |

Are they building it right next to the old Yankee Stadium? It looks like they are. Unless the Bronx has changed, that's a real shame.
It would have been nice to get one in Manhattan. Might have been a good use for the old WTC site. |
