Default Peca to the Rangers?

So Mike Peca is looking to join the Blueshirts, and would probably be a good fit, but I wonder how the Rangers have the cap space to take him on.

Quote:
Michael Peca wants to jump aboard the Rangers' bandwagon. He expects to find out today whether the feeling is mutual.

Peca's agent, Don Meehan, told the Daily News last night that he has been talking to only the Rangers in recent weeks regarding a deal for the two-time Selke Trophy winner. And Meehan said he expected Rangers GM Glen Sather to inform him today whether the club wanted to slot in Peca, 33, as the checking center behind free-agent prizes Scott Gomez and Chris Drury.

"I'm talking to Glen," Meehan said. "If you ask me, I'd say the chances are 50-50 that he'll sign with the Rangers. Michael is extremely interested in them. And we're not really talking to anybody else."

I just dont understand how the Rangers are signing all of these players. They have to be running out of Cap room pretty soon. I dont think he'll sign with the Rangers.

They may be a big mistake come the trade deadline and they need an extra player.
