Default What about Glavine and Pedro

What's going on with Pedro Martinez for the 2007 season? Will he be able to pitch this up coming season?

Also, what are most people thinking about Glavine? Do you want to see him come back for one more year? If he comes back do you think he will still be productive? Do you think he will want to come back?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what others are thinking with these two.

Well, it doesn't look like Pedro would return until the end of the summer, July-August if I recall correctly. Honestly, I think the Mets are going into the season with the expectation that they will get zero production from Pedro this year. Rotator cuff surgery has a recovery time of about 8 months before he can even start throwing off a mound again. That puts him in June before he can even start throwing sessions. That is a tough injury to come back from, and we are going to be 60-70% through the season before he even has a chance to come back.

I think we don't have a choice but to want Glavine to come back. Too many unknowns on the pitching staff behind him (Perez, Maine, Pelfrey, Bannister, Humber, Vargas, etc.). At least with Glavine we basically know what we will get, 3.50-3.80 ERA w/ 12-15 wins. I would basically expect a very similar season from Glavine in 2007 that we had in 2006.

I agree...we really have to assume that any production out of Pedro will be gravy. At least we'll still have his presence in the clubhouse!

I'm all for getting Glavine back. He's been a constant for us. I think it's a no-brainer for the Mets, but the ball is in Glavine's court now, depending if he wants to move back home to Atlanta.

As for the rest of the staff, who knows. We have El Duque if he stays healthy. Anyone know the contract status of Pettite? Perhaps a Pettite/Randolph reunion would be in the cards?

I'd just let Glavine go and use his money plus some on Zito...then If I can work out a Milledge,Heilman plus prospect trade to get Dontrelle, My top three on the pitching staff is good enough, then anything Pedro brings in the latter part of the season is gravy...It also gives the kids a chance to prove themselves...

pedros said if he cant heal 100% from this injury that his carrer is over. but dont look for him to say anything till midway through the season because as of now the insurance company is picking up his salary so he is so going to be getting paid. so i dont think we will now untill probaly june july maybe even August

The only thing about this is if u let Glavine go there is no 100% garente that we will get zito and/or willis, so if we cant get them or can only get one that does more harm then good to our pitching rotation. Another thing everyone is talking about trading for willis even though Marlins said no way they r trading him and if we do trade for someone big like willis or even if it id for a position player we would probaly give up milledge Heilmen and maybe another pitcher. if that happens who do we have in the bullpen to help us get to wagner in late innings
Duaner - who nows how he is going to be coming back from injury
Mota - suspended for steriods so i wouldn't take him back

Honstely think about we need help for a solid 7 and 8th inning pitchers

point taken 77, however going by how Omar goes about things it seems that when he wants something he usually gets it... it is only pure speculative opinion on my part...I just feel that Zito is another glavine type only six yrs younger who can improve greatly with his old mentor as his pitching coach...If Omar then can work out a trade for a 23 yr old Willis and hopefully extend his contract a few yrspast his free agent yrs, then you have a decent 1 2 punch without spending too much more than he's alrready done...add to that El Duque and a couple of the youngsters (Pelfrey, Maine, Perez, Humber , whomever doesn't get traded for Willis) It's a pretty good starting staff and there's stillplenty of room to work on the relief staff...btw Danny Baez is out as I saw he was signed by the O's today...

that is true i honstley think we will get Zito and not Willis i think Willis is stayin with the marlins. But now Bradford might not be coming back next year as the O's look to sighn more help for there bullpen. what i thnk is that Glavin just got back from his vaction with his family is let him hear what Atlanta tells him then no matter what happens go after Zito and then concertrate on bullpen help another RBI guy and back up C because i think not 100% but Castro, Stinett, and maybe Diflice are all FA

Metsblog is reporting that the Braves have offered Glavine a 1 year deal worth up to 8 million dollars with a possible option for 2008.

Matt also mentions that the Mets have reportedly offered Glavine a contract worth around 10 million dollars.

I'd love to see him back in a Mets uniform..hoping to see a decision from Glavine soon.

Tom Glavine is on the verge of making his decision. “He’s going to make a decision, I would think, by tomorrow,” Gregg Clifton, Glavine’s agent, said yesterday, meaning that today is the day that Glavine should decide if he wants to remain with the Mets for a fifth season or go home to Atlanta, where his 290-victory career began two decades ago.

The Mets say they are expecting an answer from Glavine -- who appears to be waiting to see whether the Braves come up with anything workable -- by the end of the meetings, which means next Friday.
Ridiculous..Mets need to give him a deadline to make his decision. If you spend your off-season waiting around for Glavine, the other pitchers will sign elsewhere.

From what I have read, the Braves want to move Hudson to clear salary room for Glavine, but they are asking for way too much in return.

well it's moot now...Glavine has decided to stay...I believe the figure is 10.5 for 1 yr including the 3m buyout plus anoption for a second yr...
