Is Willie Randolph underpaid at 600 Thousand per year?
Or is he compensated by all of the commercial $ he is making? WFANs Russo says hes making 600 Thousand less than Milwaukees manager and ignoring endorsements, which he believes you should, he is the most underpaid manager in baseball. |

I agree, at this point he is underpaid, but one also needs to consider that before the Mets hired him he had no managerial experience at any level of the game. I'm not saying that's the biggest factor, but he should be given a few years at least to prove himself worthy of a big contract.
And Russo always needs something to gripe about. If Willie's contract was bigger, Russo would whine that he was the most overpaid manager in baseball. I pay that little twirp no mind. |

But why in the world would he want to turn down their offer? He knows they have a great team now and a great chance of winning now, and that only improves his managerial win-loss record, as inexperienced as it is.
It's true, the Mets are holding all the cards, but I don't understand why all of this criticism about his salary is coming about now. Don't they have anything else to talk about? Is this more important to them than the state of the starting rotation? Look, Willie's not goint anywhere for a while. He'll stay as long as they keep winning, and the more they win with Willie, eventually the more money he will make. And winning teams are very unlikely to fire a manager, and winning teams in New York are equally unlikely to let a popular manager walk because of a contract dispute. This whole thing is much ado about nothing. Russo would be better off talking about his hair, and would probably enjoy it more, even though I would enjoy it about the same. |
