I don't see any problem with this, provided he stays healthy. One of the things I could not fathom last year was that he went down with an injury. Apart from being a solid defender and making sure he is up to speed with the pitching staff, a backup catcher's primary responsibility is to stay healthy. They can't allow him to go down and leave LoDuca without a safety net. Let's face it, Capt. Red A$$ seems to like getting tossed every now and then.
Other than that, Castro has bee a good team guy and solid at the plate, at least for a backup catcher. Sure, he runs lieka boulder on flat land, but he hits a lot of doubles, and actually ends up on second base from time to time. A good sign for the Mets. |
