This is big... and quite unexpected. The Braves' board is already going apoplectic over it and very understandably so. Seems Atlanta unsuccessfully tried to trade him and then dumped him out of concern that arbitration would have awarded him too much money. It is reported that his first choice for a new team is the Padres where his older brother plays but any chance the Mets would go after him? I have always liked Marcus Giles, he is a fighter and a very tough out. There have been rumours that his last year decline was due to the tougher substance testing by MLB but these are rumours only and I personally don't believe them. He had some injuries and his spot in the lineup was changing often. To me, his talent and drive are undeniable. Either way it's good news for the Mets. I can't imagine the Braves finding someone better than him. We have all been through this second-base-upgrade ordeal, not many options out there. Reitsma is also let go but this one is understandable. Bobby Cox could have done a better job pitching in relief. Last edited by Oscar; 12-12-2006 at 10:48 PM. Reason: Edited to fix link |

I've always liked him; he has all the positives of a David Eek-stein
Maybe the Braves will try what the Mets are trying with Zambrano- resigning him on the cheap. I don't see a chance in h**l of this happening with Giles since he is young and plays a premium position. And the Mets can make sure it doesn't happen by making him an offer seeing he plays a position we need. It must suck to be the Braves now. As much as I want them to fail, seeing them reluctantly release players over dollar amounts that should be peanuts for a team of their stature is a bit sad. |

I have hated Giles also but now that I think about the only reason I hate him is his success (particularly against the Mets). He would be a welcome addition to almost any club and I would certainly love Omar to bring him to Queens to start over Valentin.

Like Pasch, I've never liked Marcus either because he has always done well against us. That being said I would take him over Valentin.

Well, what else could they say. Valentin IS the 2B-man right now since he has the contract and Giles doesn't
In short, I would love for the Mets to get Giles. Otherwise, Valentin should also do a decent job. |
