I wouldn't mind seeing Lugo at 2B, but I don't want to see Minaya spend a fortune on this guy either. He is, afterall, 31 years old, and I think that Valentin can hold down the fort at 2B for one more season.

I think that Valentin can hold down the fort at 2B for one more season. personally i love him as a utility guy, and lugo coming here just adds to the stregth of our speed so long as were getting lugo for like a 3 year 21 mill deal. i dont see how anyone can complain |

I wouldn't mind getting him either...At least it brings the avg age of the team down...lol...anyway does anyone fear that this team might be a little on the old side and therefore somewhat more suseptible to injuries? we don't wanna limp into the playoffs,do we?

I agree amazinz, but what the heck is Omar doin' with this one. If we do sign Lugo, where's that leave Valentin? He can be an acceptable backup in the outfield, but we already have Endy and Johnson for backup in the outfield and don't forge about Milledge. Easley seems like he is going to become an upgrade over Woodward so we can't put Valentin there as utility guy. And the ageless wonder player/coach Franco is signed for another year and the primary RH PH. That doesn't neccesarily block Valentin to fill that spot on the roster, but he definitely has stated that he wants to be an everyday player.
So, while I think that Lugo would be an upgrade over Valentin (Lugo's career norms for BA, 277 and OBP 340, are better than the career year[by far] that Valentin had last year), what the heck? Seems like if we signed Lugo, we wasted money by signing Valentin. I guess Omar knows what he is doing, but he has me a little baffled at this point. Any thoughts? |

Im all for Lugo. What I'm surprisde about is the fact they signed Valentin so quickly and for so much. Personally, I'm skeptical of him producing the same number. I think he's better suited for a super utility role. Does Easly have a guaranteed contract?

This makes a lot of sense. I think at some point, Valentin will drop off as an everyday player. He could be a solid utility guy, but Lugo would add even more speed in the lineup. |

Matthew Cerrone of Metsblog.com is hearing that Lugo and the Red Sox have agreed to a deal.
