Default Curry Trade Revisited

In the interest of full disclosure, I will begin by saying I am the enemy (Bulls fan).

I just wanted to get Knicks fans' perspectives on the Curry trade.

It's typically a very sensitive issue for Bulls fans, as Curry was a very divisive player in his time with the Bulls. You either hated him, or you didn't.

I've heard a lot of Bulls fans claim that Paxson "lucked" into a good deal, because he couldn't have foreseen how valuable the trade swaps would be. A lot of Bulls fans also think that the Bulls are just now getting back to the level we were at with Curry in 04-05, and that if we had kept him and Chandler, we would be further along now.

Then there are the Bulls fans who believe Curry is a lazy slob, and no matter how talented he is in the low post, he will never be a significant component of a title contender.

So what do Knicks fans think? Is he worth the money? Is he worth the draft picks?

I realize it will be difficult to assess the last question before we find out what position this year's pick ends up at.

Even after last year ( Currys pretty blah season ) I would have said I still do the deal hands down.

Now you ask me after this year and see Curry improve to what is now a 20 and 7 guy, I mean its not even close, especially when you factor into it that it doesnt appear that we would have had a shot @ Oden or Durant, anyway.

Last year, I mean you guys got Tyrus Thomas with our pick.....Now I like him and think he could be a nice player but I will take Eddie Curry over him everyday of the week.

Does Curry come off as lazy, of course he does. But for whatever reason it appears that Isiah has reached him, maybe its because Isian stuck his neck out for Eddie, I dont know but Curry has responded to Isiah thats for sure.

Now if we could just get him up to 1.5 blocks a game or so and I would totally and completed thrilled with him.....But I will take the 20 and 7 he is giving us now

What do you think ?

Looking at the deal now, are you in favor of it or not ?

I have very mixed feelings about it, and I'm one of the few Bulls fans who sort of sits on the fence.

The biggest problem is his poor rebounding and lazy defense. I always hoped he'd one day get it, because if he did, he'd be one of the best players in the NBA. He is that talented.

He is a very unique offensive talent, especially in the current era of the NBA, where there are very few centers who are effective offensively. We certainly missed his low-post scoring throughout much of last season, and didn't really get fully adjusted until our hot-streak late in the season.

But I think it comes down to salary (not to mention the DNA controversy), and his defensive and rebounding deficiencies would prevent me from wanting to pay him what he's currently getting paid. But obviously, under the CBA, you have to overpay to sign a free agent away from their current team (see Ben Wallace). And we obviously won't really be able to assess the trade until we see what the Bulls get in the 07 draft and how Tyrus develops.

Yea I can understand that but I thought you guys had the perfect compliment to him in Tyson. Who all he did was rebound and block shots, him and Curry SHOULD have been perfect together.

I just think the way the NBA is now you are going to have to pay for the big man. And I would rather pay for the young talented one rather than pay for the older crappy one ala Jerome James ( Sadly we payed for him too )
