Default Patriots @ Jets - Week 1 - 1pm EST - CBS

VS.

Same team, new parts of the cog, another championship year??

Pats will have to deal with some adversity to start the season, Harrison suspended for 4 games for HGH, and Seymour and Brown out for 6 games due to injuries. Randy Moss, will he play, has he had enough practice time to be effective. Only time will tell. Brady missed portions of Thursday's practices, reportedly due to his shoulder bothering him.

The New England Patriots had a successful off-season. It's now time for them to translate that success to the field.

Opening the season with perhaps the highest expectations of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era, the Patriots face a tough test Sunday when they visit the AFC East rival New York Jets.

This game is a rematch of an AFC wild-card playoff matchup from Jan. 7, won 37-16 by the Patriots at Foxborough. Brady passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns while improving to 6-0 during his career in home playoff games -- all of them coached by Belichick.

The Patriots -- who went 12-4 to win their fourth straight AFC East title -- advanced to the AFC championship game at Indianapolis, where they let a 21-3 lead slip away en route to a 38-34 defeat.

After the loss, New England spent the offseason aggressively retooling its roster. To bolster an aging linebacking corps, the Patriots signed two-time Pro Bowler Adalius Thomas away from Baltimore.

Well about an hour from game time, and it looks like Samuel will play in this game as well as Moss.

I will be watching this game via Sopcast. Here is a link to what channels on Sopcast and TVU will have what games.

First drive of the season the Pats looked good. Welker scores the first TD of his Pats career and Pats season.

He looked very good. Moss had one catch on the first drive.

Moss has had a few more catches and looks solid thus far.

Ben Watson with the Pats second TD making the score 14-7

Impressive showing, although against a team that overachieved last year and is ranked too highly this year....

The Pats have still shown that they deserve their high power ranking....

Moss did look solid... but I will wait a bit before announcing him 'back'.... I think one thing this did was throw a monkey wrench into the plans for coaches facing the Pats within the next few games.... There will probably be a lot of focus on Randy... and I thoroughly believe Bill B. will take advantage of this and utilize the other receivers more... we'll see how Madman Moss reacts to that

Decisive victory by the Patriots here in Week 1. That was an impressive thrashing of Eric Mangini's vaunted New York Jets. The offensive line gave Brady plenty of time to throw the ball and he delivered some beautiful passes, connecting with Randy Moss for 50+ yards on one occasion. Remember when critics used to say that he couldn't throw the long ball? He's just never had anyone like Moss to reel it in.

It was also great to see Junior Seau and Adalius Thomas (does that guy cover a lot of ground, or what?) so active on defense and Ellis Hobbs running an NFL-record 108 yards on the kick return. That's a very auspicious beginning to the young season and it came against a quality opponent. The only guy who looked a little shaky to me was Dante Stallworth who dropped a few short passes. He reminded me a bit of Caldwell in that regard. I also didn't like the botched field goal attempt towards the end of the first half.

Still, all in all, a strong showing by the Patriots. I'm confident this team has what it takes to win a lot of games. We'll know more next week after the game against San Diego.

I don't know how vaunted the team can be with no real improvements and coming off of a season though while in the playoffs, they were ranked in the 20's in both offense and defense (hint... that means overrated)...

I think last year's Jets team was one of those clubs where the sum is greater than the individual parts (much like the New England Patriots team that won the Super Bowl in 2001.) New York was an exceedingly difficult team to beat during the final 6 weeks of the last NFL season. Their special teams play was extraordinary and I think they ranked very high in categories like third down conversions.

Kickoffs and kickoff returns they were ranked even lower than they were on offense and defense.... 7th in fg% but only 24 FGs for the season... one of only 10 teams to miss an XP... 13th in punting average

They won more than what they should have... and it showed in the playoffs
