Default NHL Draft Official Thread

The NHL Entry Draft will be televised for the first time in Prime Time on Friday, June 22nd in Columbus Ohio. You've already seen moves (Nashville and Philadelphia making a trade) made to strengthen positions for draft day. Though this draft is not supposed to be too deep, there will be lots of comings and goings (I suspect) over the two day event.

Lately I've heard talks about the Blackhawks trading the #1 overall pick, but apparently they won't....

Quote:
Chicago Blackhawks Dale Tallon appears to be leaning toward keeping the No. 1 pick in Friday's NHL draft.

The three prospects believed to interest Tallon the most are right winger Patrick Kane, left winger James vanRiemsdyk and center Kyle Turris.

The leafs have dealt their #1 (13th overall), 2nd and a 4th in 2009 for Vesa Toskala and Mark Bell from San Jose...

Excellent trade for both teams. Now maybe the Leafs will come eighth instead of tenth!
SJ gets to select high once again and will be able to add to there great young players while the Leafs get a NHL caliber goalie (they didn't have on this year!)

But in the shallowest draft in years, is #13 truly worth it?

I think so. Sharks already have a great young team and had no need to keep Toskala. This gives them one of Couture, Esposito, Shattenkirk, Blum or maybe even Cherapanev. This is a great trade for both sides, IMO.

TSN is reporting Florida has traded pick #10 and 2 second round selections to the Nashville Predators for Tomas Voukon.

Holy crap. I though if any goalie from the Preds would go it would be Mason. It looks like after 3 good seasons the Pred's are already starting to lose alot of good players (Forsberg, Timonen, Hartnell, Kariya, Vokoun). Mason is a good goalie though so Vokoun is not to big of a loss and Florida needed a goalie. Another win-win trade like the Sharks-Leafs trade, IMO. BTW, if anyone is wondering that second of the two second round picks Florida got from Detroit in the Bertuzzi trade.

Woah just realized tomorrow at 8 AM is when the second round starts, pretty early. But I will get up considering I now have 2 months to sleep in!

WOAH! First three picks go as expected but LA goes off the board selecting Thomas Hickey at fourth overall. Hickey was ranked 22nd by THN and 17th by ISS.
