Lets note that this completes the 1992-93 and 1993-94 expansion teams making the Stanley Cup final. The Florida Panthers made it to the final in 1995-96 (with thanks to the Beezer), the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Cup in 2003-04... The Senators and Lightning have been playoff teams more than the Panthers and Ducks but that means little or nothing

The 2007 Stanley Cup finals pairs a juggernaut with few discernible flaws with a could-be juggernaut with a penchant for self-destruction. In other words, the clash between the Ottawa Senators and the Anaheim Ducks has all the makings of a classic. That is, unless the Ducks lose their collective minds, which they have shown the ability to do, and the Senators have their way with them.

At the start of the regular season, there were many who believed Anaheim was capable of arriving at just this point -- the Stanley Cup finals. Not so many thought the Senators would get here. But how the teams arrived here has dramatically changed the perception of both heading into the finals.

ESPN.com: Stanley Cup finals breakdown: Ducks vs. Senators
This has definitely been a story of two teams who beat the odds, injuries, and the naysayers, to arrive at the Finals of the greatest sport on Ice. I'm personally rooting for the Sens as I'm an Eastern Conference fan first, but I also don't know a whole lot about the Ducks except for the obvious players - Neidermayer brothers, Pronger, and Giguere. I think this could be a good series but will anyone but the regional fans be watching this series. It certainly isn't the Wings and Rangers (big tv markets) but if the NHL could actually market the game, this could be a big draw.

Two teams that have incredible offenses, and defenses that are enough to get you this far, and goalies who are standing on their heads.

Tonite is game 1, and for those of us who will watch no matter who is in the Finals, I hope you all enjoy it and maybe we can get some chatter going on this thread.

Well I know a lot ppl we're skeptical as to the quality of a finals we would have, but I have to say these two teams are really working their asses off. Both Goalies are seriously putting a clinic. JS has been stellar and Emery isn't down the other end slacking off either. I think that so far the Sens have had the overall better chances thus far in Game 2, but it only takes one fluky goal to change the complexion of the game and series

After 2 periods this game is sitting scoreless. This is gonna be a dash to the finish.

There has been a ton of hard hitting in this one, and you can see tempers are getting closer and closer to the surface.

I wouldn't mind seeing Neil pound Pronger into the boards nice and hard, Pronger has been playing with more edge as the season has worn on, and I'm seeing glimpses of the nasty d-man that was in St. Louis.

Dunno about it being a dash to the finish... Aren't the most incredible hockey playoff games the ones that just won't end?

Meaning OT may be inevitable on this one.

O there is nothign better in any sport than the OT hockey in the NHL. it's all for the desire of the Cup, not the pay or even the glory that may come with winning it all.

it's gonna be a furious period tho.

Ducks just killed off a huge penalty, while JS made a huge save
