Doan's alleged comments in 05, still getting attention

Shane Doan had been accused of making racially charged comments to some referees back in 2005, and now there is a huge move for some to come to his defense. Unbelievably this story won't go away, and continues to grow legs. Colin Campbell investigated this back at the time of the alleged comments and cleared him then of any wrong doing. He continues to believe in his findings.

"I stand by my original comments after our investigation," Campbell told the Canadian Press about the Doan situation. "But I would add to it at this point in time, it's rather embarrassing to all Canadian hockey fans we're rehashing this again, particularly when Hockey Canada and Shane Doan are representing and working hard in Moscow right now, competing for our country. It's ridiculous."

Daniel Briere is the latest player to come to Doan's defense saying,

"As long as I don't have any proof that it was him who said that, I have a hard time believing that story, I can't believe it," Briere said in a media scrum conducted in French. "Shane is one of my best friends. He's never said anything racist towards anybody since I've known him. I've never even heard him swear."

Briere said Doan called him to explain what had happened.

"He told me what he said was `four Frenchmen in Montreal.' And he felt bad about even saying that," said Briere. "So I'm convinced he didn't swear or say anything racist."
