Who did the most to help a playoff run...
San Jose - Guerin Pittsburgh - Roberts, Laraque Detroit - Bertuzzi, Calder Dallas - Nagy, Norstrom Buffalo - Zubrus NYI - Smyth, Zednik Van - Sopel, Smolinski ATL - Zhitnik, Dupuis, Tkachuk Preds - Forsberg I like what the Isles have done and should be a nice push... Buffalo needed to retool wiht all their injuries... I think they did well along with dumping some salary Dallas did well in now considerations... but gave up a ton of high draft picks for it... Detroit.. Needed a power forward... I just don't think Bertuzzi is that anymore.... since the Moore incident he doesn't have that fire. that meanness he used too.. |

Flyers are winners because they got rid of some big contracts in Forsberg, Calder and Zhitnik, and got some young talent in return. I think Detroit is a winner because I think Bertuzzi will help and Calder will probably play well there. The Islanders are big winners as well.

I personally see the Lightning as winners (though many would disagree with that) simply because they didn't shoot themselves in the foot long-term to add another big name. A Guerin, Forsberg, etc would have ruined the franchise under the cap and made it impossible to keep around Lecavalier, Richards, St. Louis and Boyle.
They already have a core of skilled guys, what they lacked was long term depth on the blue line (which they addressed in O'Brien), nastiness (O'Brien and Stewart). Ward is a more experienced 2 way forward than the rookies filling in for Rob Dimaio... Not a lot of flash but that wasn't what Feaster was trying to attain in the Ward deal. |
