Default NHL Decides No Radical Changes This Time

The NHL's board of governors meetings wrapped up with a healthy discussion of the game, and despite the downward trend in offence, it was mostly agreed to leave the game alone at this point in time.

''I think it's a wonderful game the way it is today,'' said New York Rangers president and GM Glen Sather. ''Just because the goal-scoring is not as high as everybody would like it to be, I don't think there's anything wrong with the game. It's a terrific game.''
I'm excited to hear that nothing, besides the schedule, is going to change next year. I'm also semi-excited to hear that the Salary Cap is likely to go up once again next season. Good news for the NHL, to be certain.

The league needs to learn that goal-fests are boring. Those tight 1-0 defensive games from the pre-lockout NHL were exciting to watch, whereas blowouts just become boring.

Jussi Jokinen's 4 goal night, for example. It was fantastic to see him score 4 goals, sure, but the game was absolutely dead after the first period. There was nothing happening on the ice, just Jussi scoring goals. That's not a fan-friendly atmosphere even for the casual fans...it's just plain boring.

Very good news on the whole, very good news.
