the american economy is dying. expensive items such as tickets to a hockey game will become unsellable, high maintenance arenas will be dead losses, and the teams that moved to america will go running back to canada. i would be glad to see canada get their teams back. we could still keep a few minor-league teams. i saw a couple detroit vipers games that looked like the iraq invasion: millions of dollars to accomplish nothing but get their asses kicked.

I think you're a bit on the overkill there for you Canadian brothers. While I agree that Canada should have at least another team if not two, to say that the NHL is somehow going to be too expensive suddenly, is a little crazy.
Hell going to a baseball or football game is twice as expensive and we don't see any decline there despite what the American economy is doing

It's nice that you're trying to be humorous, but let's leave the "reality" shtick to Lewis Black, ok?
There's nothing to suggest that any of the ex-Canadian teams are going to move back to Canada in the near future, nor any of the teams founded in the US. Yes, there's been speculation about Pittsburgh (dealt with, and they're staying put) and the Predators (possibly dealt with, and they're also staying put for the time being), but nothing to suggest movement for any other team in the league. Certainly none of the bigger teams are moving on. As was said, it'd be nice to see another team or two in Canada, but it probably won't come at the expense of an already existing franchise (unless the Panthers have plans to move...).

Panthers and or Florida. Pheonix as well. Those are the teams that would move as a possibility.
I know this would never happen seeing as they just built a new rink but the Devils are starting to see their fan base fall apart.

Clearly you're either very young or very dumb. While Canada's economy is strong and the American economy is down at this time America's economy is not "dying." I'm going to be drop-dead honest with you, if America were to go down Canada would go down as well. Canada is not considered a strong country and has the least influence in the world among the developed countries. I'm not trying to be rude and I really like western Canada, but honestly Canada is not and will not really have any power or influence in the world. Canada will always only be a supplemental country to the United States, The U.K. the EU, and some Asian countries led by Japan and South Korea. In a global market the NHL would not survive with out the support of the fans of the United States even though that they might be a small percentage compared to the other amount of fans who watch the NFL, NBA, and MLB. |

NHL's future is not loooking good right now, and need to get more Americans into the game and for them to like the game more then they do right now. They need to market the game on good TV channels and put the NHL on for commercials in the states more.

Weren't ESPN on the lookout to bring the NHL back in time for next season? I know OLN/VS contract with the NHL only lasts through this season, but I seem to recall hearing about ESPN looking to lock up the NHL for the next season.
That'd be a big boost for the league, bringing the likes of Gary Thorne back to call the games, rather than Doc Emrick and Bill Clement (Clement's good and would be good to have him back w/ Thorne, Doc's not).

Vs is still deep cable in many parts of the country, no sport can survive only on deep cable. You need a package with national broadcast, standard cable, as well as deep cable/regional networks.
Otherwise you are just getting people who are already fans.

Bringing ESPN back would be the best thing the NHL could have happen to them, but Bettman has to have enough courage to admit he made a mistake. Bringing the NHL network to the states is a start in the right direction, but I'm not aware if it's readily available to everyone.
Like I don't know if it's the same as the NFL network where there are millions of ppl who can't get it. Fortunately for me I have the Dish, so I'm getting them both. I pray that ESPN will come back and put the NHL back on the map, the game is better overall, but they (media) have to learn they can't keep trashing it with the violence of the sport as it's base factor. Glorify the tradition and history of it.
