The important question is which will actually put him behind bars. Torturing animals makes us angry...but what are the sentencing guidelines vs. RICO or some other racketeering/laundering charges? The prosecutors are going for the home run....given the choice between 5 years in prison for a 'boring' charge vs. one for the 'nasty' one they're going to shoot for the former, I would think.

Almost certainly the cruelty charges will carry little jail time but the RICCO elements (and gambling) will not. People go to jail for the RICCO conspiracy rules quite often, its not at all impossible to sell to a jury.

Look on the bright side - it makes "The Longest Yard III" more likely.

None of his NFL buddies were involved? Not even invited to watch?

Only one egg, a rotten one, in the NFL dog fighting basket?

What are the odds?

According to ESPN.com, no plea has been entered as of Sunday PM, and yet another federal grand jury will be convened to consider a 'superceding' indictment.

Additionally, the State of Virginia has yet to consider charges related to the dogfighting/ gambling allegations.

Vick has yet to rule out the possibility of going to trial.

Good luck wit dat

Well.. depending

I can't say his NFL career is over... if he has eligibility after whatever jail time, and he is still 'in shape' SOMEONE will give him a remote chance of making a team

Michael Vick's lawyer said Monday the NFL star will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, putting the Atlanta Falcons quarterback's career in jeopardy and leaving him subject to a possible prison term.

The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less.
"After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick asked that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him," lead defense attorney Billy Martin said in a statement.

Yeah in the short attention span society we live in, he could shuck the pariah status he has currently achieved, but I don't think ole PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) is EVER gonna get off his case. Any team attempting to hire him would get inundated with bad press. A whole boatload of if's to overcome. Goodell could make it a moot point anyway with the harsh way he's been handling even the minor stuff.

OK I may not be right.

Considering that he just pled guilty to gambling and racketeering I don't think he's going to be in the NFL.

Than that shouldn't be a problem for the lions because they get a lot of bad press.

Vick will be in a Detroit Lions uniform 2008.

No, he'll be in jail in 2008. 2009 season is the earliest he'll be back.

Listen, I am not saying I support dog fighting, but I think a deep contradiction exists for those that consider it entirely bad.

Dog fighting maybe illegal in the United States but what about other blood sports like insect fighting, fox hunting, and sport fishing?

Look, many of us do not condone dog fighting, but when it comes to hunting, many of us do not have an opinion.

We point our fingers at the allegations against Michael Vick but what about the several NFL players that are avid hunters who essentially shoot game for entertainment?

What I am saying is that the history of dog fighting traces back a long time:

Quote:
Dog fighting has been documented in the recorded history of many different cultures, and is presumed to have existed since the initial domestication of the species. Many breeds have been bred specifically for the strength, attitude, and physical features that would make them better fighting dogs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_fighting

Another blood sport in the United States that is banned is cock fighting but it as well is part of our culture and history.

Did you know Presidents like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln participated in this sport?

I am not some animal rights hugger from PETA and I have to ask when will this madness end? It is a sad day when we are giving more rights to dogs and chickens then humans (see the term enemy combatants).

I mean, it even says in the BIBLE that only humans can enter Heaven:

1 Corinthians 2:11 "For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God."

Revelation 20:13 "The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done"

Is that before or after Vick stuck the dog in a tub of water and than hooked it up to an electrical outlet?

Still not as bad as murder, rape, gambling, or selling drugs.
