Turns out that the United Football League has some staying power. Well, at least it has an official website now United Football League | Home. According to this post at a UFL Fan site (www.ufllive.com) announcements of the first few teams could be coming soon.
One of the cool things the UFL has been doing is allowing the fans in each city to have a voice in which city gets a team. If you haven't yet, you can go vote for free right now. |

If they are smart, they'd try to position themselves to be a minor league football league that targets the smaller markets without major NFL teams. They could even try to team up with the NFL and be a training/proving ground for NFL teams, much like NFL Europe is.
The most likely scenario is that they delude themselves into thinking they can actually compete with the NFL. |

Now, that's a stupid idea.
Pony up 5$ for a seat and your might get a team in your city. If not, you've just spent money to vote. Also notable is that they no longer call Mark Cuban one of their investors.

No one will be able to compete against the NFL, however I like the idea of a minor league for the NFL. I think it would be quite popular and lucrative for the league, as long as the teams are based in North America. It would serve a developmental purpose for fringe NFL players and coaches, would allow second-tier college talent to continue playing football, and would test new cities on whether they could one day support an NFL franchise. I think all 32 NFL teams should have a minor league team. The season would take place during the spring and summer, so as to not interfere with the in-season practice squads. There would be two pre-season games the last two weeks of February, fourteen regular season games (March, April, May and the first half of June), and up to three playoff games (culminating with a championship on July 4th weekend.) The minor league players could then participate in the NFL camps that begin in mid-July.
East: Hartford Patriots Rochester Bills Syracuse Jets Albany Giants Harrisburg Eagles Columbus Browns Allentown Steelers Louisville Bengals South Richmond Redskins Norfolk Ravens San Juan Dolphins Orlando Buccaneers Birmingham Falcons Baton Rouge Saints Raleigh Panthers Memphis Titans Central Springfield Bears Des Moines Colts Omaha Chiefs San Antonio Texans Oklahoma City Cowboys Little Rock Vikings Milwaukee Packers Ann Arbor Lions West Portland Seahawks Las Vegas Cardinals Los Angeles Chargers Honolulu 49ers Sacramento Raiders Anaheim Rams Salt Lake City Broncos Mexico City Jaguars Each team plays its 7 divisional opponents twice; once at home, once away. Each of the four division winners advances to the playoffs and gets seeded according to tie-breakers (wins, points scored, etc.) Each second place team also qualifies for the playoffs. In Week 1 of the playoffs, #1 vs. 8, #4 vs. 5, #2 vs. 7, #3 vs. 6. In Week 2 of the playoffs, 1/8 vs. 4/5, 2/7 vs. 3/6. In Week 3 of the playoffs, the championship game: 1/8/4/5 vs. 2/7/3/6. |

Some major news about a team officially coming to Orlando, a mini-camp to be held in Orlando in May 2008, and possible all-star game in Orlando as well.
Also,@bedir, they added the ability to vote for free for exactly your reasoning. But if you want to spend money on a reservation for better seats and your town doesn't get a team then you will get your money back. |

That's a good move. I'm a fan of a more democratic take on professional sports.

I think the AAFL was also trying to get the blogosphere behind things -- they just did a poor job of it by placing the emails that they were sending out in the inboxes of non Football webmasters.

2 things,
1st, its great to hear about O-town! They really need a good football team (besides the Preditors). 2nd, its not uncommon to sell "holding" tickets in advance. In Virginia we did it for 2 possible teams and you got your money back when the team didn't come. 5 bucks is less than a street donation! just my 2 cents John |
