Default Favre asks for trade

Quote:
FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Brett Favre asked the Packers to trade him just after April's NFL Draft.

Favre was reportedly "fed up" with the organization and likely upset it didn't acquire Randy Moss. Mike McCarthy is said to have phoned Favre several times but the quarterback screened the coach's calls. Glazer says the Packers are now "primed to head into serious damage control to prevent any further uproar." The team doesn't plan to trade Favre.
Well.......I am kind of shocked and kind of not.

1 part of me cant imagine that Favre would come back just to ask for a trade, doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me unless he plans on playing for another 3 years. Why come back for 1 year to leave on this sour note ?

The other part of me isnt shocked at all. Favre pushed hard for Moss and when he saw that all NE gave up was a 4th rounder I am sure he was pissed. Add that on to the draft pick of Harrell over 1 of the numerous WR on the board and I can see Favre wanting out.

This will be interesting to follow, to say the least.

I would have too if I was Favre. The Packers blow, they will be the bottom dwellers of the league for years to come.

Can't even do a trade and their drafting sucks. Favre should have got his trade, maybe he could come to Chicago for a season?

This is exactly what the Packers organization needed the most. Brett to do something to open the door, from here on out they are going to be able to push him out and not face a huge backlash. Will he go this year? Not likely, I can't see us trading him at all, but this helps us cut him in 2 years or so if we feel we have someone else at QB.

I love what they have done in building through the draft (Nick Collins, AJ Hawk, Greg Jennings, 3 starting OL, 1 starting OLB in past 2 drafts). We are getting younger on Defense adding DT Justin Harrell. Ted Thompson is the GM we needed so that we would build Defense through the draft, and develop the offense, which is far easier to do in the NFL than the other way around. If Brett doesn't realize that by continuing to build our defense they are taking more and more pressure off of him, then that's his fault. Would I have rather had Randy Moss? Sure, but I think TT may have played his cards right in that this upset Favre to request for a trade, and so now we have room to push him out if we need to.

now he's trying to retract his statements. He admits his frustrations but says he's looking forward to the season.

BMW, what is the feeling amongst Packer fans on Rodgers?

I mean I know what most people opinions on him and what mine is, which is that he was a product of the college systems which turned out QBs that didnt do well in the NFL like Harrington and Boller.

I know the whole feeling of well we wont know what we have untill we play him and I understand that but I just wouldnt want to let Favre go unless I had a better option behind him.

I totally agree with you BMW that this is exactly what Ted Thompson wanted. He wanted Brett to come off to the national news media as a whiner and to use this as an excuse to the local media that when Brett's time is up it will be easier to point back to this. But as I am sensing lots of the media are understanding and are on Brett’s side. Brett went back on his comments a little bit, but it is not like he doesn't have a right to be upset.

One of the reasons TT took Harrell in the first round is because DL’s don't demand the kind of money say a WR or RB would demand at that same spot in the first round. Also he wants to keep down the price of DL on the Packers by constantly bringing in young blood. My biggest problem with that pick is a first round pick aside from a QB is suppose to help your team get better immediately. The problem is our DL did not need to be addressed in the first round and you can't start six or seven DL at the same time. This is a win now league.

Brett only came back because he was promised the offense would be upgraded. He was lied to. You can’t fault Brett; he can’t do everything like he once did. But the fact is Brett is still our most important offensive player and best. If Thompson was going to build for down the road in this years draft he should have told Brett before Brett made his decision to come back. Then this could have been avoided.

The inability to acquire Randy Moss put him over the edge; this has been building all off-season.

Which is what the Packers organization needs is to be rebuilt. Colin Cowherd was right on the money in that Brett deserves what he's getting, and he hasn't been lied to at all. TT told everyone that he is going to build this team the same whether Favre plays or not. So Brett makes a big deal about it, acts like he's doing us all a favor by gracing the field and tossing the ball to the other team 3 times a game, and then gets pissed when we dont bring in a risky WR. Would I have liked to had Randy Moss? Yeah, we would be better this year. Do I completely understand why we don't have Randy Moss? Yeah, we're going to be better in the long haul. There are too many Packers fans blinded by Brett Favre, and quite frankly I'm sick of waiting around for this guy to go away. The sooner he leaves, the sooner Aaron Rodgers can ruin his career and we can move on to a QB that will actually succeed in Green Bay.

DT is the base of a great defense, and the more quality players you have along the DLine the better you are going to be. Packer fans would be kidding themselves to think they don't have a pressing need of another playmaker along the DLine. TT is doing a wonderful job consistantly upgrading this team with young talent, and all most Packers fans do is whine because he isn't keeping our over the hill QB who jerks the franchise around, happy enough. Packers fans hated Ron Wolf when he traded for Brett Favre, now they had TT because he isn't keeping Favre happy....they'll hate the next guy when he doesn't appease AJ Hawk after TT builds a Super Bowl calibur defense around him, and he's had a wonderful career, and everyone celebrates TT. Bah....it's frustrating to see so many Packers fans blinded by the light, I haven't seen many on this site mind you but in the Packer Plus Newsletter and such, and especially when national radio hosts are correctly analyzing the situation for Packers fans to hear and wake up.....

GO Brett GO!!! All the way home. You can come back and we'll retire your number in a couple years when we're celebrating our 3rd division championship in a row on the team TT built.
