Default Carr signs with Panthers

From Rotoworld :

Quote:
David Carr's contract is worth $6 million over two seasons. He received a $3 million signing bonus.

That's about right. As backups go, Carr is near the top of the payscale along with Brian Griese. That the Panthers were so aggressive getting a deal done recognizes that Carr isn't your average backup. He'll try to rehab his career and be ready to go if Jake Delhomme goes through another prolonged funk.
Interesting choice on both parts, I would have thought he would want to go somewhere where he knows he can start rather than be the obvious backup to Jake.

On the otherhand you heard the rumors all last year that the Panthers were not thrilled with Jake so maybe this signals the make or break year for him and he could be done if he gets off to a slow start.

Good move by the Panthers... I agree that this may not have been the best move for Carr

Miami would have been a better choice for Carr if he wanted to start.

That's the thing. Carr doesn't want to keep starting for bad teams. He wants to play for a winner even if he has to sit. In Carolina, Carr has a shot of being a starter eventually, even if it's not this year. It would be better for him if Jake had an excellent year and he just sat on the bench learning from Jake how to be a leader. Plus it'll give his body a rest from all those sacks he's taken. It's a good move for both sides. Delhomme gets a kick in the pants or he's probably going to be saying goodbye.
