Default Ron Rivera let go

I was just listening to Mike and the Mad Dog and they said that Lovie Smith would not be bringing Ron River back as his DC because he knows Rivera is going to get a job next year ?

Is that seriously your reasoning Lovie ????

Now Rivera doesnt have a job and all the DC spots are filled up, kind of messed up, IMO.

If he wanted to fire him then just come out and say it but I think his excuse is BS to me.

UPDATE :

From FoxSports

Quote:
The Bears have decided not to renew defensive coordinator Ron Rivera's contract.

At first glance, this is shocking news. But there have been signs in Chicago that Lovie Smith favored LB coach Bob Babich, who will be promoted to defensive coordinator. Rivera has been among the hottest assistants in the league the last two years, but apparently hasn't impressed in numerous head coaching interviews. With every defensive coordinator position accounted for, Rivera may have to take a step down in title to work in the NFL in 2007

Yeah Lovie gave some seriously weak reasoning behind the change. If it came down to salary or if he wanted to give it to someone else he should just say it. If that's Lovie's reasoning he should fire himself because the Bears haven't given him a contract extension and who knows if he is going to be coaching in Chicago long-term.

ok Jim Johnson, you can retire now, so Rivera could become the Birds Defensive Coordinator.

Well it didn't take Rivera long to find a job and it's on the Chargers!
Quote:
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Chicago defensive coordinator Ron Rivera was out of a job, but not for long. Just hours after the Bears announced Monday he wouldn't be retained, the San Diego Chargers gave him a two-year contract to coach their linebackers.

Rivera, who has talked with eight NFL teams about their head coaching positions over the last two seasons, had a three-year contract with the Bears that was set to expire next week.

After it was announced he wouldn't be coming back to the Bears, Rivera vowed he would land another job.

And he did, getting a deal to join new Chargers coach Norv Turner. Rivera had just interviewed for San Diego's head coaching job last weekend.

Man, it pays to be friends with the GM......

There is no other way that Ted Cotrell would be the DC over Ron Rivera

what made him such a hot coach all of a sudden? the bear's d was over hyped, they were good but not a monster......so what made rivera the latest genius? its the media creating and over hyping an angle, i bet lovie has other reasons he rather not make public like rivera isn't anything special.

Ron Rivera will really be an asset to the Chargers. Cotrell should be the defensive assistant, not Rivera.

Now we'll see if Rivera coaches to his players or coaches to his system. Because the talent isn't in San Diego to run the Bears style of Defense.

They'll run the 3-4 which Ted Cottrell is an expert in, and line backers are line backers whether you got 3 or 4 of em.

You think that Merriman would be a linebacker in a 4-3? I'm betting he would move to DE. Similar to what Arrington has done.

Since he runs the 3-4 successfully wherever he goes.

And as far as Arrington moving to DE? Where and when did this happen? LaVar playing OLB for the Giants until he was hurt, and he is a Free Agent this year. JJ is a running back, and I can't think of any other Arrington's in the league.

Yes I think Shawne Merriman could just as well play OLB in a 4-3. While he is strong enough to play DE, he is a great pass rusher because of his speed and quickness, which is a great asset for an OLB in ANY scheme.

My recollection of LaVar with Washington was that he was a DE at that time.

SI.com - 2003 NFL Preview - First Person: LaVar Arrington - Wednesday August 13, 2003 09:11 AM

And it seems he was a pass rushing DE up until 2002.

He was a LB who rushed the passer in obvious passing situations such as 3rd and Long. There's a big difference in the amount of snaps where he is rushing the passer and playing DE, compared to how often he is standing up, taking his read steps and playing LB. He was still a LB. Like Derrick Thomas and LT were LB's....
