Default Oracle Chief Reportedly Mulling NFL Team Purchase

Say's he's buying up land in Malibu, maybe he'll buy Oakland and move? Buffalo and Vikings might be on the short list too.

The NFL needs 21st century ownership that understands how to capitalize on the internet, emerging markets and the nature of modernsports entertainment.

They definately should get him involved.

Getting rid of Al Davis would be a wonderful idea as well. I doubt a stadium in Malibu would work though.

The NFL is already greatly involved with their Net property. The problem isn't their presence on the Internet, it's wondering where to go from here. That's marketing - that's R and D. That's not ownership. Ownership's money.

Gettign rid of Al Davis, though, would be the best thing the league could do.

The league's 21st century reach, just to go on with this argument, isn't the Internet alone. It's globalization. The NFL need to get the rest of the world market involved with the sport of American football -- get their interest. That's why you heard the NFL mulling a future super bowl abroad, and why the NFL is playign regular season games in Europe now. American football hasn't taken in Europe, hasn't taken in Asia... They can hodl exhibitions but they can't get consistent dolars out of those markets. That must change

So will the NFL shrivel up and die if Asia and Europe don't care about it?

Nope, they just won't be able to maximize their revenue opportunities. Business people like to do that though, and so they will continue to try.

But if these new markets have no interest in American football it will be a revenue drain.

Only if they throw crap at the wall and hope it sticks like they did with the NFLE. The NFLE at least taught the league that ther eis soem interest in Europe.

Now the strategic option is to put the leagues best foot forward. One game is not a drain. Not if you capture the attention of an entire country, if but only for a week (or more).

I just don't see how playing one game a year in Europe is going to be a big boost to the league as a whole. Is the inconvience it puts the teams through worth the trouble?
