Right, the Hall is not a museum.

Carter is not only a better choice than Monk because he has better career numbers in just about every way, but he was more dominant while playing on worse teams. Monk led the league in receptions once (1984), Carter led in receptions once and in touchdowns three times. Carter was an 8-time Pro Bowler over 8 straight seasons (1993-2000), Monk was selected just 3 times (1984-86).

It is not inherent to the system... or the system would be able to be inducted in the hall, not the player...

Monk was an above average to very good guy (with 1 single damn good year) who happened to play forever... he did not redefine the position with greatness... simply not an immortal

The ProFootball Writers disagree with you. They feel quite strongly that Monk redefined the 3 wide out set. Several of them have said that is why he was voted into the Hall.

They voted for ones like Namath and Swann too... don't mean they are sticking to a true greatness criteria....

it's more likely he was ultimately inducted because he retired as the all-time receptions leader.

carter will get in, and he won't wait as long as monk to get in.

it was really the offense that redefined things. monk's actual role in it wasn't very unique. he didn't really do things differently as a wideout. his job was to run routes and catch passes. he was no more important or unique to the system than gary clark, imo.

We get John Clayton doing a local radio show on Saturday mornings out here in Seattle (www.kjram.com) and he just basically agreed with your first two points. Specifically saying that the time that Monk waited was the prime reason he moved ahead of Carter and that Carter will be inducted next year without a doubt.

which is horse crap... the 'greatest' of those available (as long as they are truly great and not just the top of a class of bozos) should be the ones that get in... Carter was clearly a superior playing in this league, and he gets snubbed at the likes of Monk
