Default Pats-Giants to be shown on national tv

Quote:
The New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available for every household in the country with a television after months of wrangling.

The game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs.

The league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from lawmakers in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.

Great news.

So now that you will have the choice to watch, which channel would you choose?

For me, its NBC hands down. I love their crew.

It's good to see Kerry finally accomplish something as a Senator.

Good lord, I find out today, that no matter what station I see this on, I still have to listen to Gumble.

This is dumb. What would crack me up is if New England won this game and then lost in the playoffs. What history is set, then?

Finishing a regular season with a perfect 16-0 record is an achievement worthy of historical recognition, regardless as to what happens in the post-season. If the Patriots lose in the playoffs, however, they cannot be considered the greatest team in football history. To earn that distinction, they need to finish 19-0 and win the Super Bowl. Then, and only then, should they enter the conversation about the greatest teams of all time.

As a Patriots fan, I'm not optimistic about New England's post-season chances. The Patriots of late November and December are not the team that steamrolled over everybody in September and October. They're barely beating some of the league's worst teams. They're simply making way too many mistakes on defense and with the running game. Take away Tom Brady and Randy Moss, and the Patriots would be lucky to finish with a .500 record.

I'll be very surprised if the Patriots defeat the Colts a second time this year. Even when the Patriots were at their offensive apex, scoring 40+ points per game, they needed a big fourth quarter comeback to win at Indianapolis. So how are they going to fare against them now that the Patriots aren't performing at as high of a level? And that's assuming the Patriots even make it to the AFC Championship game. What if they lose to a San Diego team desperate to avenge last season's playoff loss, or to an underrated Jacksonville team? What if the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl and face a strong Dallas Cowboys team? The national pundits talk as though this is a done deal for the Patriots. I don't see it that way at all. Teams with a great running game present all kinds of problems for the Patriots. It's not going to be a cakewalk to the championship.
