Default Per Peter King: 2008 Salary Cap Numbers - Today, 10:16 AM

Quote:
1. Tennessee (39 Players) $40.85 million
2. San Diego (44 Players) $33.03 million
3. Jacksonville (43 Players) $32.69 million
4. Buffalo (49 Players) $32.05 million
5. New Orleans (39 Players) $31.69 million
6. Cincinnati (48 Players) $31.45 million
7. San Francisco (48 Players) $30.91 million
8. Cleveland (42 Players) $30.31 million
9. Arizona (34 Players) $30.27 million
10.N.Y. Jets (45 Players) $27.72 million
11.Oakland (40 Players) $25.98 million
12.Tampa Bay (48 Players) $25.90 million
13.Miami (48 Players) $25.56 million
14.N.Y. Giants (49 Players) $24.47 million
15.Detroit (42 Players) $23.50 million
16.Houston (43 Players) $22.91 million
17.Dallas (40 Players) $20.61 million
18.Kansas City (44 Players) $20.27 million
19.Chicago (52 Players) $19.80 million
20.Pittsburgh (43 Players) $18.61 million
21.Green Bay (48 Players) $18.37 million
22.Philadelphia (49 Players) $17.17 million
23.Denver (49 Players) $16.77 million
24.Minnesota (49 Players) $14.88 million
25.New England (41 Players) $10.93 million
26.St. Louis (45 Players) $9.61 million
27.Seattle (44 Players) $9.55 million
28.Indianapolis (48 Players) $8.49 million
29.Carolina (35 Players) $6.05 million
30.Atlanta (52 Players) $5.79 million*
31.Baltimore (42 Players) $5.00 million
32.Washington (45 Players) -$20.72 million
* Not including unspecified potential rebate from contested return of Michael Vick's pro-rated signing bonus.

And yes, you read it right. The Washington Redskins are $20 million over the projected '08 cap, a number that will be reduced once the 'Skins convert some bonuses assigned to the '08 cap (including a hefty one paid to tight end Chris Cooley) to signing bonuses, which can be pro-rated over the life of the contract.

My thoughts.

1. Unless the Patriots re-sign him, Randy Moss will be the #1 free agent next year. If I were Scott Pioli, I would shell out the money for him. If not, expect Jacksonville or Tennessee to give Moss a big contract.

2. For Baltimore, can you say rebuilding? Don't expect them to re-sign Terrell Suggs at the end of the year. I would expect him to sign a big deal with the Arizona Cardinals. Chris McAlister, Ray Lewis, Derrick Mason, Steve McNair could all be cap casualties.

3. The Seahawks have four big free agents - Marcus Trufant, Sean Locklear, Josh Brown and Floyd Womack. At this point it looks like they will franchise Trufant (unless they are willing to give him a Nate Clements contract).

I bet they regret giving that big fat contract to Shaun Alexander instead of Steve Hutchinson. Alexander should be cut, I don't know much cap space they would say by doing that.

4. Chicago is not that bad cap-wise. I wouldn't be surprised if they re-signed Lance Briggs.

5. The Colts could be in trouble. They have to give a contract extension to Bob Sanders, and that could mean Dallas Clark and Jake Scott bolt.

6. The Redskins are a mess.

7. The rebuilding process for the Falcons starts at the end of the season. Don't be surpised if they cut Warrick Dunn, Joe Horn, Lawyer Milloy, Rod Coleman, trade Alge Crumpler, Michael Jenkins, DeAgnelo Hall etc...
