Default Sean Taylor shot, in critical condition

Quote:
PALMETTO BAY, Fla. (AP) -- Washington Redskins star safety Sean Taylor was shot in the leg at his home Monday and was bleeding heavily, and police said he was in critical condition. They are investigating a possible robbery.

Officers were sent to Taylor's home at about 1:45 a.m. after his girlfriend called 911 and said he was shot in his lower body, Lt. Nancy Perez said. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, she said, but did not disclose how many times he was shot.

Richard Sharpstein, an attorney who represented Taylor in a criminal case, said the player's father told him his son had been shot in the leg and there was much bleeding because the femoral artery was severed.

Investigators were still interviewing the girlfriend and other relatives who were in the home to try to determine what happened, Perez said.

"It could have been a possible burglary; it could have been a possible robbery," Perez said. "It has not been confirmed as yet."

I sure hope he survives this incident. He was having a pretty good season until he got injured earlier in the month. His 5 interceptions is still on top of the NFC.

Tragic news for Redskins nation.

First Shawn Springs' dad Ron is in a coma and now Sean Taylor.

Yep... being in the area for local DC news.. it is all over the place

There seemed to be some hope last night with some supposed response to requests by the nurse for him to squeeze her hand... and some facial expressions...

but alas the youngster sustained too much damage.... it's a shame.. a real shame... such talent and promise gone at 24

Now we just have to wait for all the details as they emerge

Wow, this is tragic. 24 years old and dead. What an unfortunate example of how little promise we have for tomorrow.

MIAMI (AP) -- Pro Bowl safety Sean Taylor died Tuesday after he was shot in his home by an apparent intruder, leaving the Washington Redskins in mourning for a teammate who seemed to have reordered his life since becoming a father.

The 24-year-old player died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been airlifted after the shooting early Monday, family friend Richard Sharpstein said. Sharpstein said Taylor's father informed him of the death at about 5:30 a.m.

"His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."

A string of mourners, including Taylor's father, visited the player's home and embraced outside. Authorities entered the home, but it was unclear what they were doing.

"This is the worst imaginable tragedy," Redskins owner Daniel Snyder said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Sean's family."

Redskins teammate Clinton Portis also played with Taylor at the University of Miami. He had sensed a new maturity in his close friend.

"It's hard to expect a man to grow up overnight," Portis said. "But ever since he had his child, it was like a new Sean, and everybody around here knew it. He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child."

RIP Sean Taylor... This is terrible news. I feel for his family, team, and friends.

But..

Who the hell keeps a machete for protection?

I have a bat... but a machete under your bed?
BTW, Sean Taylor's girlfriend was the niece of actor Andy Garcia.

Excellent tribute by the Redskins this week by putting only 10 men on the field for their first defensive possession. Well done.

Redskins honor Sean Taylor with 10 men on field - USATODAY.com

Sure they gave up 22 yards, but what does that matter?

I rarely get sentimental about sports. But seeing Joe Gibbs on the sideline today, waving to the crowd and embracing his players as Washington got into the playoffs with a 21 point victory. That got me.

Made me forget that Dallas' offense looked like they belonged in New York Jets uniforms.

It makes it easier to win when the only reason the other team showed up is that a forfeit would result ina gigantic fine.
