Default FBI Looks Into NBA Game Fixing

Quote:
The FBI is investigating allegations that a veteran NBA referee bet on basketball games over the past two seasons, including ones in which he officiated.

According to a law enforcement official, authorities are examining whether the referee made calls to affect the point spread in games on which he or associates had wagered.

The law enforcement official, who spoke to the AP on Friday on condition of anonymity, said the referee was aware of the investigation and had made arrangements to surrender as early as next week to face charges. The official, who did not identify the referee, is familiar with the investigation but was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

The probe, which began recently, also involves allegations that the referee had connections to organized crime associates. Other arrests are expected, the official said.

I read an article a few weeks back that said the highest home viewership of the San Antonio Spurs / Cleveland Cavaliers final series failed to come close to the worst Monday Night or Sunday Night football game last season.

Just what the NBA needs ...

It's amazing that the NBA game is so uninspiring. These guys are truly fantastic players and athletes. On almost every play, you see something that would take your breath away in a college game. Yet, when the pros do it, it's almost dull.

Because its common. Diversity is what adds spice to a game, and teamwork and strategy which the NBA has largely abandoned, and there is little in the NBA.

Why should he be different than the players? They are disrespected and not paid what what they are worth. All he did was do something about it rather than cry in the papers.

Will be very interesting to see how this plays out. Could be the biggest news to hit North American pro sports in a long time.

Was the pitching mound ever moved back in major league baseball? I'm thinking it's always stayed the same. Anyway, I'm wondering if the game would change for the better if the hoops were raised to 11'. Or, perhaps they make it wider so as to encourage more peripheral game (and takeaway the three).
