Default Donovan to NBA then back to FLA

From Rotoworld :

Quote:
Billy Donovan is expected to become the next coach of the Orlando Magic after he was presented with a substantial contract offer, officials with the team told the Orlando Sentinel.

Donovan, 42, is coming off back-to-back NCAA titles with Florida and was in negotiations for a contract extension at Florida when the offer from the Magic arrived. Donovan will replace Brian Hill, who was fired last week after back-to-back losing seasons. Florida had been planning on announcing Donovan's extension next week, but that's obviously no longer the plan
.

Cant really blame him, all his kids left for the NBA and the Magic have a very good young core of players and were in the Playoffs this year, so I can see why he did it.

You have the franchise player in Howard to build around so it all makes sense.

The question now becomes who will the Gators hire ?

Prediction: Donovan will not earn a winning record in the NBA and may not work the full term of his first contract.

As for who the Gators will hire, that's a good question. Does Donovan have a ready assistant?

The speculation that its going to be the VCU coach

Man, in a weak east and with the young talent that the Magic have I really cant see Donovan NOT doing well. They made it with a very young team this year and they are only going to grow older and become better players.

I think that Donovan is going to do very well in Orlando

But only time will tell.

My prediction is based solely on the past poor performances of college coaches in the NBA. The skills required for success at the pro level are completely different from those required to win college championships. I can only think of one coach who has performed at championship caliber on both levels - Larry Brown. And he had his share of dog years in between the good ones.

And Donovan is back @ Florida.....

Just a very stange situation, Donovan says he felt rushed and made the wrong choice and wants to go backto Florida

The magic agree to let him out of his contract and he will be back @ Florida

The REAL loser in all of this is the VCU coach who had agreed to terms to be the new coach of the Gators

What an idiot, flat out loser Donovan is. I'm sorry but this makes me lose respect for someone, pulling antics like he has done.

He's right, he probably would have been a bad NBA coach, but now he seems to me like a traitor. He is the new Nick Saban of basketball. I actually think he is worse because he didn't even give the Magic a shot.

What I am saying Billy think through your decisions before you make them, he is lucky Florida is even bringing him back. Donovan should be banned from the NBA several seasons for this. Totally a frowned upon move, the Magic left him off the hook easy.

Strange story...NY radio reported Donovan had to sign a non participation 5 year contract in order to be released meaning he cannot coach Pro Ball anywhere for five years.

It doesnt make sense for him to have to sign that waiver BUT if he pulled this crap now you would think he has no intentions of coaching the NBA anytime soon. I highly doubt any NBA team would even contact him in the near future after this.

I think this will work out for the better for the Magic because assuming they hire Stan Van Gundy he will be a hell of a hire there and I can see him doing really well with that group of players.

He is still the Better Van Gundy...Jeffs attempt at humor last night went over like a lead balloon with Mark Jackson...they showed a recruiting film on Pop and Duncan lying on a beach in St Croix...VG commented he had to go to Brooklyn to sign Jackson...he didn't take it well.
