He passed the ball because Marshall was red hot. James has been struggling at the stripe, and they wanted to go for the win by putting up the 3. It was a WIDE OPEN shot, so I don't think I can get all that upset by the play call. Had it fallen, we would all be talking about how smart Lebron was for making the pass. It just didn't go in.

No, you don't pass up an open layup to tie with the clock winding down. When hot, a 3-pt shooter is hitting at about a 40% clip. Bron has about a 95% chance of hitting an open layup.
It's the kind of mistake a young player makes. I bet he never makes it again. |

First of all, Lebron does not make 95 percent of his layups. The other issue that is virtually ignored is the fact that 2 points would only tie the game. Think about the odds of Cleveland taking out the Pistons on the road in overtime. I like that they went for the win on the road. It was a wide open shot for three to win vs. a contested layup and probably overtime on the road against the Pistons. Everyone keeps comparing Lebron to MJ, but here's a newsflash for everyone, HE'S NOT MJ. Damon Jones made a game winning shot from three in the playoffs last year, and I didn't hear any critics then. I think people are making a huge deal over a good pass. Regardless, he has a chance to redeem himself tonight.

He blew by Prince and turned the corner and had an uncontested layup/dunk for his taking.....
He is your star player, he is the face of the franchise, I dont care if its on the road or not and you dont like your chances in OT.......You take the tie game and take your chances in OT. Atleast you get another 5 minutes to try and do something rather than the game being over if the 3 doesnt fall, which it didnt.

Steve Kerr on the pass:
"Personally, I loved the decision. On the road against a superior team, you go for the win. Marshall had hit six three-pointers in the Cavs' East semifinals closeout game against New Jersey, so why not give him a look? Mike Brown designed a beautiful play, James executed it perfectly and Marshall didn't hesitate. As a coach, you cheer your team and say, 'Let's get 'em next time.'" I am not saying that Lebron shouldn't have gone for the layup with the game on the line. I am saying the Cavs did not seriously hinder their odds of winning by dumping to Marshall for a wide open look. |

I just think that you go from possible beating the best team @ home or atleast having a chance too in OT....to a deflating loss on a questionable decision by your star player
It seems like a big swing, atleast to me it does As for Kerr, he isnt the type to knock a player. Most ex-players wont knock a Lebron, Kobe or anyone.....its just the player code crap

Cavs were up fairly big on the Pistons again and let it sleep away once more.
Bother series have gone pretty much as expected in terms of results. The Cavs could easily be up 2-0 though, instead they are in an 0-2 hole. Series Watch : Spurs - 2 / Jazz -0 Pistons - 2 / Cavs - 0

Sure, with Duncan in foul trouble, they can compete. I'll be very surprised if they take another one, though I've decided that the presence of Deron Williams and Dee Brown, two of my favorite players from teams the Tar Heels played important games against (Duncan is another, but he's old news), are enough to offset Boozer and allow me to root for Utah.

You hit on the head DLB, Duncan being in foul trouble was the key to the Jazz being able to get the W. Granted Deron Williams played a hell of a game and has probably pushed himself into the 3rd best pure pg in the game behind Nash and Kidd but if Duncan is on the floor for his normal mins then the Spurs win

The Jazz have definetly suprised me in the regular season, and have clearly done the same in the playoffs.
Williams had a great game last night, but I think you have to give some credit to the coach, Jerry Sloan. He turned this dismal team into a solid playoff team. He has done that countless times in the past, and you have to remember he is not in the most marketable city. By the way wasn't in cool how everyone in the crowd at the game last night had on Jazz shirts, now that is team unity!!!

Jerry Sloan doesnt get NEARLY enough credit for the job he has done in Utah over all the years hes been there.
The guy is a top 3 coach in the NBA, IMO He never has the most talented team or even a team in the top 5 of talent but he always gets more out of the talent he does have than almost any other coach in the game
