Angry George Karl invites son!!!!!!!!!

Quote:
If Denver Nuggets' coach George Karl's son, Coby, isn't drafted, he looks to be in line for an invitation to Nuggets summer camp.

"My feeling is yes," George Karl said of the 6-foot-4 guard, who just completed his senior season at Boise State and is a long shot to be a second-round pick. "Right now, my feeling is he fits what we need. We need kind of a playmaking bigger player."
Article

What a joke, Coby may even get drafted, although he is a longshot.

This just shows you how obseesed some parents are with their children.....Wht do the Nuggets need him? Well maybe they do because old George saids he is the perfect fit

I know its just a tryout, but its kind of sad to me that some parents think their children should have advantages

What do you all think of George mentioning this?

I dont see the big deal w/ him getting an invite to the SL camp

Coaches invite their former players for tryouts all the time, I would he gives hes son a look.

Its not like he played D3 ball or anything, he is a D1 players

This isnt a big deal to me

But come on...Announcing his son as a leading canidate to make the team with no pro experience

In addition he might get drafted, its funny how GM's get in trouble for mentioning college players and George can mention his son at will

I still dont get your beef, all SL camps invite A TON of non-drafted rookies. Look at Memphis they signed Kinsey and now he is going off with them ( non drafted rookie )

Summer League camps are usually guys with no or little NBA experiance

"Right now, my feeling is he fits what we need. We need kind of a playmaking bigger player" is what George saids.

First off I agree these camps are good experiences, but here is my problem.....THE DRAFT DIDN'T HAPPEN YET, so he isn't undrafted!

Coby may get drafted that's the difference, George just sounds like a YMCA coach babying his "star son" if he doesn't.

Once again though...his sons season is over..I dont get why its such a big deal

He probably knows his son ISNT going to be drafted, there are enough scouts out there ones that are emplyeed by the Nuggets that can tell him his son isnt going to get drafted.

The nuggets do need Guards that can shoot the outside shot, I have never seen his son play but if he can shoot the 3 then he DOES fit the Nuggets needs

I see nothing wrong with bringing Cody Karl into training camp. I just think it will be awkward when the father cuts his own son, or when a more deserving player gets cut so that the younger Karl can hang out with the team all year and collect an NBA paycheck as the 15th man. There's a conflict of interest here, unless the younger Karl plays out of his mind in training camp, puts up objectively good stats, and proves that he deserves to stick on his own merits. It's not unprecedented for a father to coach his son in professional sports. We've seen it in baseball with Felipe Alou and Moises Alou. And it's also not impossible for an undrafted player to develop into a solid NBA professional. Sometimes scouts focus too much on size and raw athleticism, as opposed to actual basketball skills.

Giving his son non-garbage playing time would be hurting the team. A willingness to sit on the bench and work hard in practice without complaining is a very major job qualification for the guys filling roster spots 11-15.

The D-League is full of stupid and/or selfish guys who were High School and college stars. The Nuggets pretty seriously underperformed their talent level this year. Shaking things up with the coach's kid in the locker room doesn't seem like much of a risk. Karl has that Mad Scientist persona, so anything is possible.

Timber I dont think anyone thinks he is going to make the team unless he earns it. So I dont think you have to worry about him even getting garbage time. Because the players that are there to work on their game in the Summer League are going to get their minutes no matter what.

The Lakers have agreed to a free-agent contract with guard Coby Karl, the son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl.

Karl, a 6-4 guard from Boise State, will play on the Lakers' summer league team in Las Vegas.
So obviously other teams were interested in him and not just his father.
