Default Amaechi is out

ESPN.com - NBA - NBA Local: Kobe seizes the day

Changing times? on ChicagoSports.com

MercuryNews.com | 02/08/2007 | Former player says he's gay

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/08/sp...08amaechi.html

John Amaechi hasn't been in the league for a few years, but his announcement is rocking the NBA. Players are making fools of themselves every step of the way.

Ray Allen comes off as rather obtuse

LeBron James comments were dumb as well. It's pretty obvious why he didn't come out during his playing career.

"With teammates you have to be trustworthy, and if you're gay and you're not admitting that you are, then you are not trustworthy,"

do you actually think that t-mac is gay. your out of your mind. did you know that mcgrady is married right.he wouldnt come out during the season and say that he is gay. jhon amaechi was a good player but not very smart. how is he gooing to know if mcgrady is gay. that is very absurd to say that. how do you think he feels right now.

Amaechi Urges Talk About Gays in Sports - Forbes.com

Quote:
"I don't need Tim's comments to realize there's a problem," Amaechi told The Associated Press in a phone interview Thursday. "People said that I should just shut up and go away - now they have to rethink that."
later

Quote:
"His words pollute the atmosphere," Amaechi said. "It creates an atmosphere that allows young gays and lesbians to be harassed in school, creates an atmosphere where in 33 states you can lose your job, and where anti-gay and lesbian issues are used for political gain. It's an atmosphere that hurts all of us, not just gay people."
John's response is reasoned, wellbalanced and will hopefully help the sportsworld wake up to the influence they can have on rights.

Hardaway Banished for Anti-Gay Tirade

Hardaway has been banished from the AllStar festivities.

David Stern
Quote:
"We removed him from representing us because we didn't think his comments were consistent with having anything to do with us,"
"This is a country that needs to talk about this issue," he said. "And, not surprisingly, they use sports as a catalyst to begin the dialogue."
Hardaway is now saying the right things, but its likely too late.

I only know him from the Spike TV show "Joes vs Pros" but I have a feeling he won't be on TV much for at least a year.
