Arrow GDT: Predators @ Blues - 2/16/2007 7:00pm CST

News - GAMEDAY: Preds at Blues, 7 PM - Nashville Predators

GAMEDAY: Preds at Blues, 7 PM

February 16, 2007

TONIGHT'S MATCH-UP

WHO: Nashville Predators (39-16-3) vs. St. Louis Blues (23-26-9)

WHEN: 7:00 p.m. CT

WHERE: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Mo.

TONIGHT THE PREDS WEAR: White

Until recently, the Nashville Predators owned the NHL's best road record. Tonight, on the heels of three straight road losses, the Predators will attempt to get back on the winning track away from the GEC when they face off against the St. Louis Blues in a 7:00 p.m. game at Scottrade Center. Newly acquired center Peter Forsberg is not expected to be in the lineup for Nashville tonight. He is slated to make his Predators debut Saturday night at home when Nashville hosts the Minnesota Wild.

Though Nashville has defeated St. Louis 14 times in a row, that record is misleading with regard to how competitive these teams are when they meet. Five of the six games played between the clubs so far this season have been decided by one goal. Tonight's match is the seventh of eight this season between these Central Division rivals.

The Blues, who defeated Columbus 4-2 on Wednesday, have been playing solid hockey and are approaching the .500 mark after a slow start to the 2006-07 campaign. Winger Bill Guerin is on a four-game point streak--he has 5 goals and 2 assists in that span--while teammate Keith Tkachuk has amassed five points (2 goals, 3 assists) during a three-game streak.

The Predators enter tonight's game after a commanding 5-0 win over the San Jose Sharks Wednesday night at the GEC. Nashville will be looking to string together a pair of wins for the first time since Jan. 27. Forward David Legwand has had the hot stick for the Predators lately, with a three-game point streak that has netted 2 goals and 1 assist.

Predators Notes: Shea Weber registered his first career two-goal game in Wednesday's 5-0 win vs. San Jose. Weber leads Nashville d-men in goals (10) and ranks second among club blueliners in scoring (10g-19a-29pts)… Martin Erat had a goal and an assist on Wednesday, establishing a career-high in points (13g-37a-50pts). Erat's previous career high was 49 points in 2003-04 and 2005-06… David Legwand tied his career-high in points (20g-28a-48pts) with his 20th goal of the season on Wednesday. He had 48 points (17g-31a) in 2002-03. Legwand, who now has 99 career goals, is on a three-game point streak (2g-1a-3pts) and has 20 points (9g-11a) in his last 18 games…. Tomas Vokoun posted his fourth shutout of the season vs. the Sharks, tying his career high. He also had four shutouts in 2005-06… After not registering a game-winning goal in the first 55 games of the season, J.P. Dumont now has two in his last three games.

According to the daily paper,

Mason should be in net tonight.

Forsberg should miss tonight's game for travel.
Tootoo is still day-to-day with a sore hip.

Nashville was hoping to get the Peter Forsberg era off to a better start -- even if he wasn't playing.

Despite insisting the trade for the star center wasn't a distraction, the Predators dropped a 1-0 decision to the St. Louis Blues on Friday night. The loss came about 24 hours after Nashville acquired Forsberg from Philadelphia.

"I'm not going there because our guys handled it pretty well," coach Barry Trotz said. "We're absolutely excited about having him. We're mature enough to realize that we just have to play hard."

The former MVP did not play against the Blues and should make his debut with the Predators on Saturday at home against the Minnesota Wild. Nashville gave up two players and two draft picks in the deal.

Bill Guerin scored late in the second period, Manny Legace stopped 19 shots and the Blues ended a 14-game losing streak against the Predators. St. Louis last defeated the Predators at the end of the 2003-04 season. The Blues lost all eight meetings last year and the first six this season, all but the final loss coming by one goal.

"It feels good," Guerin said. "We've played them hard all year and we wanted something to show for it."

Nashville is 0-1 with Forsberg not in the lineup..

an overall stinker of a game. St.Louis played a good, boring, defensive trap all night and capitalized with a goal...

oh well, it was bound to happen eventually. Hopefully the Predators will turn things around for the final 20 games of the season!
