Tuesday, Dec. 26 - St. Louis Blues - 7:00 p.m.

On Dec. 26, the Nashville Predators host the St. Louis Blues for the fourth of eight meetings this season. In mid-December, the Predators defeated St. Louis in back-to-back home-and-home games, requiring extra time to secure both wins. Paul Kariya scored a shootout goal and goaltender Chris Mason stopped all three shootout attempts he faced as Nashville overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Blues 3-2 on Dec. 16 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Then Kimmo Timonen scored a power-play goal in overtime the following night to lead the Predators to a 2-1 victory at the Scottrade Center.

The Predators enter this Tuesday night tilt having won 11 straight against the Blues. Though Nashville has taken the first three meetings this season, St. Louis has given the Preds all they could handle in each contest--all decided by just one goal.

NHL - St. Louis Blues/Nashville Predators Preview Tuesday December 26, 2006 - Yahoo! Sports

St. Louis (10-19-6) at Nashville (24-9-3)

Behind new coach Andy Murray, the St. Louis Blues have put together their first three-game winning streak in almost a year. To extend that run, he needs to stop an 11-game slide against the Central Division's top team.

Murray will try for the third time to beat the Nashville Predators when the Blues visit Gaylord Entertainment Center on Tuesday.

The Blues haven't had a four-game winning streak since March 25-30, 2004, and they haven't beaten the Predators since April 3, 2004. Since then, St. Louis is 0-8-3 against Nashville and has been outscored 33-17 during that stretch.

Less than a week after taking over for the fired Mike Kitchen on Dec. 11, Murray led St. Louis (10-19-6) into a home-and-home series with the Predators. St. Louis fell 3-2 on Dec. 16 as Nashville's Paul Kariya scored the only goal of the shootout.

The next night in St. Louis, Kimmo Timonen's power-play goal with 1:49 left in overtime sent the Blues to a 2-1 loss.

Since then, St. Louis has turned it around and recorded its biggest win of the season with a 3-2 overtime victory over Eastern Conference-leading Buffalo on Saturday. Bill Guerin scored the tying goal with 10:32 to play in regulation, and added the game-winner 1:35 into the extra period.

That goal gave the Blues a third straight win for the first time since a three-game run from Feb. 2-8.

Here's a tidbit that I read over on another board:

"since Andy Murray has become the coach for the Blues, they have scored first in each of the last 7 games and were able to dictate a neutral zone trap -- therefore, slowing down the flow of the game, etc"

here's to the Predators scoring first tonight!

Radu! what a beautiful deke to beat Legace in the 5th round of the shootout!

I was getting worried after Sullivan, Kariya, and Erat all missed their shootout attempts. But, Guerin, Rucinsky, Tkachuk and Weight all missed theirs as well.

News - Preds defeat Blues 3-2 in shootout - Nashville Predators

Preds defeat Blues 3-2 in shootout

Rookie Alexander Radulov scored the game-deciding shootout goal and Chris Mason stopped all four St. Louis Blues shooters he faced as the Nashville Predators defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 Tuesday night at the Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Mason stopped Bill Guerin, Martin Rucinsky, Keith Tkachuk and Doug Weight in succession whille Blues goaltender Manny Legace turned aside chances by Steve Sullivan, Paul Kariya, and Martin Erat before Radulov lifted a backhander past the netminder in the fourth round of the tie-breaking session.

"In a shootout you have to have a little bit of composure," Predators head coach Barry Trotz said when asked why he chose Radulov as his team's fourth shooter. "Some guys like [Sullivan] and [Kariya] have that sort of ice in their veins when it comes to that. And I think this kid does. It was just a gut feeling. His dad's in town. I said, 'What the heck.' "

In the locker room, Radulov admitted to being a bit nervous when he took the ice for his shootout attempt. "A little bit," he said. "As soon as I started skating it was OK."

The win improves Nashville's record to 25-9-3 for the season. The Predators have now won 12 straight meetings with the Blues dating back to Oct. 15, 2005. They widen their Central Divison lead to six points over the Detroit Red Wings, who were idle Tuesday.

The game was scoreless after a well-played and penalty-free first period. Erat set up Kariya for a goal 1:21 into the second period to give Nashville a 1-0 lead, but the Blues outscored the Predators 2-1 in the third to knot the game at 2-2. With less than seven minutes left, Nashville failed to convert on a 5-on-3 advantage that lasted 1:27. As a result the tie remained through the end of regulation to force the five-minute overtime session. The Predators had another great chance to win the game in OT, with two full minutes of a 4-on-3 power play, but again came up empty.

"Obviously you need to score on a 5-on-3 and also a 4-on-3 in overtime, but we still won the game," Kariya said. "We'll make some adjustments and go from there."

Still tied at the overtime buzzer, the game went to a shootout where Radulov converted on his first ever shootout attempt to secure the win. Nashville is now 4-1 in shootouts this season.
