Default Predators recall forward Patrick Leahy

December 8, 2006

Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has recalled forward Patrick Leahy (PAT-rihk LAY-hee) from the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Leahy, 27 (6/9/79), has posted 10 points (6g-4a) and 18 penalty minutes in 23 games for the Admirals this season. The 6-3, 200-pound Brighton, Mass. native appeared in 49 NHL games with the Boston Bruins in 2003-04 and 2005-06, registering four goals and four assists (4g-4a-8pts).

This is in response to Steve Sullivan's groin injury the other night against LA...

The injury to Sullivan necessitated the recall of forward Pat Leahy, who posted 10 points (six goals, four assists) and 18 penalty minutes in 23 games for Milwaukee this season.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Leahy has played in 49 NHL games — 43 last season in Boston, where he notched eight points.

"He's got a little NHL experience, which we like," Trotz said. "And he's got some size, so he can also play kind of a grinding role."

The Predators may be in the midst of one of the most grueling portions of their schedule, but it's not likely to intimidate newcomer Pat Leahy.

The 6-3, 200-pound forward is fresh up from Milwaukee, which has been trudging through a ridiculously difficult American Hockey League schedule.

The Admirals were set to play their 10th straight road game on Saturday, a contest that also happened to be Milwaukee's 16th game in 25 days.

"We've had a really strange schedule," Leahy said prior to the Predators' game against San Jose on Saturday. "We only had about five games the whole first month of the season, and in the next segment, we have like 37 in 65 days. It's been kind of a grind."

Leahy had played in 49 NHL games over the past two seasons, including 43 last season with the Boston Bruins. But that didn't dampen the enthusiasm he felt when the Predators recalled him from the AHL following Steve Sullivan's injury.

"This is where everyone wants to be, so anytime you come up, it's a big thrill,'' Leahy said. "After starting the season and playing the first couple months in the American League, when you get the call to come up, it's just like (playing in the NHL) for the first time.''

Predators Coach Barry Trotz wasn't looking for big offensive numbers from Leahy, who'd notched 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 23 games while at Milwaukee.

"We're just looking for him to be a really hard-nosed, responsible player,'' Trotz said. "He's a character guy, so we'll have him playing those kind of roles, and we may be asking him to kill some penalties.''
