Kind of hard to get 27 PIM, nice job Darryl you must be proud!

Edit: Nice to see over 10,000 show up at the Bradley Center for the game. It was for a great cause (Children's Hospital) and maybe the casual fans that were at the game will go back again!

We get $5 seats because of my wife. She's disabled. She sits on the disabled platforms. Still, even at $17 that's pretty darn good (when compared to NHL lower bowl seats). I doubt there was 10,000 at the game though. There might have been that many paid seats, but 10,000 in the stands there were not. It was an enjoyable game. Once they got sieve-tender Mike McKenna out of there...the Admirals were able to turn it around. Bootland's fight was a total joke. He basically tackled Paul Brown and then started throwing punches while he was on the ground. I am going to write an article about the game tonight and I'm going to include pictures. Howard was very sievish too; and I'm surprised they kept him in there. Its too bad I didn't know you were going to be there; I sat there and scanned the upper deck for a good portion during stoppages in play. Looking to see someone waving at me. The little Guerriero kid is tiny...and slow for his size...but he plays smart and knows where the scoring areas are. He had a great back door play. 7 goals in the first period! Yikes..not much defense there! Oh, and Alex Henry SUCKS. I'm a Wild fan...and have watched him for 2 seasons unfortunately...I am not even sure he's AHL worthy. Despite Henry's bungling play...it was still a very entertaining game nonetheless. GO WILD!!!

Yeah I was listening to the game on the way back from the Packer game (a very sloppy game in itself.) How many people do you think actually showed up? Not that it matters because the $2 still goes to the hospital.

I started listening at the beginning of the 2nd period and was shocked to hear the score was already 4-3, I was even more shocked in thinking that Goehring gave up 4 goals and then the announcer said McKenna started the game.

That's the second time this year the Ads have scored 8 goals against Grand Rapids.

I heard the fight where Bootland jumped Brown, was there something Brown did to make Bootland do that or was it out of frustration?

The Admirals maybe coming together which is good to see because I wasn't really expecting much this year. So far it has been a pleasant surprise and I hope they can keep it going as they are 6-0-2 in their last 8 games climbing out from a tie for last place to 4th place and only 3 points out of 3rd place.

I am also surprised that Claude Noel hasn't moved on to bigger and better things. I hope he's the Ads coach for life but I know that will never happen. I just hope he stays a few more years and brings us a couple more Calder Cups!

Solid goaltending provides cover

Something about the Grand Rapids Griffins awakens the Milwaukee Admirals offense.

The Admirals, playing in their third game in as many days, were able to overcome their early mental mistakes and miscues to come up with an 8-5 victory over the Griffins on Sunday at the Bradley Center.

The game marked the second time this season that Milwaukee scored eight goals against Grand Rapids. In five meetings this season, the Admirals have netted 26 goals against the Griffins and are 4-0-0-1 against them, with one more meeting Dec. 29.

Griffins lose third game in a row

MILWAUKEE -- A busy weekend that started on a sour note for the Grand Rapids Griffins ended the same way.

Milwaukee scored six of the game's final seven goals Sunday night to earn an 8-5 victory over the Griffins before 10,590 at the Bradley Center.

The Admirals, who are 6-0-0-2 in their last eight games, scored 14 goals to beat the Griffins on Friday and Sunday.

Third-period goals bring down Griffins

PEORIA, Ill. -- Mike Glumac and Jon DiSalvatore scored in the third period Saturday night to break a tie and give the Peoria Rivermen a 4-2 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Glumac scored his seventh goal of the season at 8:14 of the period and DiSalvatore hit an empty net with four seconds to play as the Rivermen handed the Griffins (12-13-2-2, 28 points) their second consecutive loss.

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and forward Scott Barney scored for Grand Rapids. It was the second goal in 21 games for Barney, who had 32 in 53 contests last season for Chicago.

Admirals Top Griffins, Sweep Weekend

Milwaukee, WI-The Admirals and their fans joined in on the giving mood of the holiday season Sunday night at the Bradley Center. The Admirals gave over $21,000 of their ticket sales to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee, while fans brought teddy bears for Children's Hospital. But Milwaukee's charity fell short of giving Grand Rapids what they wanted. Instead, the Admirals gave them a lump of coal in the form of an 8-5 loss.

The 10,000-plus strong crowd at the Bradley Center was treated to what Coach Claude Noel comically referred to as, "A shootout at the O.K. Corral."

"I didn't know which way it would go," he told reporters after the game.

Three of the first four shots by the Griffins found their way past the Admirals new net-minder Mike McKenna who was playing in his inaugural game with the team. Noel pulled McKenna after the fourth shot and third goal.

Former Apple Valley star leads Milwaukee Admirals to 8-5 victory

~ Derek Felska MVN Staff Writer

Opening Faceoff in 12-17-06 Milwaukee vs. Grand Rapids

Former Apple Valley Eagles star, Karl Goehring came in relief of Mike McKenna and appeared to stabilize the Admirals in an 8-5 come from behind victory Sunday night in front of a racous crowd at Milwaukee’s Bradley Centre.

The Grand Rapids Griffins would start things off with good jump in their skates and their pressure had the Admirals scrambling about in their own end. The pressure would frustrate the Admirals, and Kelsey Wilson would take a foolish roughing call. The Griffins struck quickly on the man advantage when Ryan Keller would deflect a puck that bounced about and beat McKenna to make it 1-0 Grand Rapids. The Admirals would strike back just 30 seconds later when John Vigilante’s hard work would see him get a feed towards the front of the net where he fired a home a puck by former University of Maine star Jimmy Howard to tie it at 1-1. Not only did Vigilante score, but the Bradley Centre became saturated with Teddy Bears being thrown by Admirals fans as this was the game of the annual “Teddy Bear Toss” to give these lucky bears to needy kids. The game would not be tied for long. Two minutes later some poor defensive coverage saw Ryan Oulahen all alone in the slot and he took a pass from Jonathan Ericsson and one-timed a snap shot by McKenna to give the Griffins a 2-1 advantage. Undaunted the Admirals would counter attack; and work the puck well down low. John Vigilante’s hard work would pay off into a Grand Rapids penalty; and the Admirals would strike a pretty back-door play to Jason Guerriero who stuffed it past Howard to equalize the game at 2-2. Yet, poor goaltending would again allow the Griffins to regain the lead. Darryl Bootland would redirect a shot and the puck would slowly trickle into the net evading McKenna and prompting Milwaukee head coach Claude Noel to call for a goaltending change. McKenna would get a seat on the bench, and in would go Apple Valley, MN-native Karl Goehring. Goehring’s presence seemed to stabilize things as he was able to reel in some good in-close opportunities Grand Rapids had. Yet, the Griffins would add one more before the period was over when on a power play Bootland would blast a slapper from the point that Goehring never saw making it 4-2 Grand Rapids. Yet, it was clear the Admirals seemed to have much more stability between the pipes with the veteran Goehring between the pipes. The Admirals would strike late with just under two minutes left in the opening period when Kevin Klein would wind up and blast a slapper from the slot and finding the twine to cut the Grand Rapids lead to one going into the 2nd at just 4-3.

Teddy Bears rain down onto the ice after John Vigilante’s goal in the 1st

The Admirals seemed to carry the momentum from Klein’s late 1st period goal into the 2nd. Just over 3 minutes in, somewhat disappointing veteran Ramzi Abid finally showed some of that scoring ability he has demonstrated at virtually every level when he wound up and rifled a blast by Howard to tie the game at 4-4. The Admirals would finally take the lead ironically during a Grand Rapids power play. Rich Peverly would get behind the Griffins defense and move in all alone on Howard and went top shelf for the shorthanded goal giving the Admirals a 5-4 lead going into the 3rd.

Karl Goehring really gave the Admirals a chance to win Sunday against Grand Rapids

In the 3rd the Admirals would add to their lead on some excellent work by Cal O’Reilly down low who found Paul Brown near the front of the net and he shoveled it past Howard to make it 6-4, causing the 10,590 in attendance to roar. Yet, it was some careless play with the man advantage that saw Derek Meech move in off of the breakaway where he would score shorthanded to make it 6-5. Yet, the Admirals would again extend their lead to put this one out of contention when on the power play Jason Guerriero would work the puck behind the net and then wrap it around Howard to make it 7-5. The Griffins tried to get back into the game and wound up and cranked shot after shot at Goehring, but time after time he made the save and demonstrated the poise you’d expect from an experienced veteran. The game got a bit ugly late, when Darryl Bootland tackled and then tried to beat down Paul Brown, but it was Bootland who would earn the instigator and game misconduct. The Admirals would tally one more time when Kelsey Wilson would score on the rebound as a part of Bootland’s 5:00 major to make the game 8-5, sealing a victory for Milwaukee.

Goehring had a great night between the pipes stopping 22 of 24 shots he faced in relief of Mike McKenna, earning him 2nd star honors. On a side note; during the 3rd period, Admiral’s team president Mike Greenberg announced the team was donating over $21,000 to the local Boys and Girls Club, proving that the Admirals are a team that give back to the community. Just another great story for a game full of them.

The Admirals won again beating Omaha 3-2. They got 3 1st period goals and only collected 13 shots the entire game.
